you hide your face with your disguise // 'cause someone filled your head with lies
[It had been a few days since the hunt for the Great Mujina Youkai had come to an end, having to say goodbye to the kids and to Yoimiya too. The ship that was to take him back to Snezhnaya would be arriving a bit later in the day, and Childe sighs as he sits back in his chair in the tent he's occupying in one such hidden Fatui camp. He had a great time in Inazuma. The country was beautiful, rich with a new culture to learn and all sorts of places to explore and fight new and more exciting enemies. All his things were in order- the gifts that he'd bought to bring back to his family, Teucer's Onikabuto in a little bug box with some food to keep it alive during the trip back- all he'd have to do is wait for the ship and he'd be on his way.
He tells himself that he'd return to the country one day, once tensions between the Fatui and the Shogunate calm down. It was a miracle that he was able to stay as long as he has, evading the Tenryou Commission. He has some people to thank for that, and he won't forget what they did for him while he's been here. Some gifts would be in order for them upon his return.
The Harbinger idly plays with a writing utensil between his fingers. He'd like to bring something from Snezhnaya for Yoimiya, too.
There's a sharp rap at his door, and Childe sighs. He doesn't really want to deal with work right now, perfectly happy reminiscing on the time he's spent in Inazuma before he leaves, but answers with a bored tone to his voice:]
Come in.
[An agent enters, bowing and standing at attention.]
Sir, we've captured a Tenryou Commission spy that was found sneaking around. We've taken her into custody and are awaiting your orders on how to deal with her.
[Childe's eyebrow raises. It should have been hard to find this camp, even by the Shuumatsuban. Somehow, doubt creeps into his mind, but stands from his chair.]
Alright, I'll deal with it myself. At least I can have one last bit of fun before I depart.
[The agent only bows once more, to lead Childe towards the prisoner. He knows better than to argue with the Harbinger, but feels sorry for the spy. The two cross the camp to another tent, the agent stopping him right before lifting the flap for his senior commander.]
She claims to be from the fireworks shop, but we've seen Tenryou soldiers stop frequently at it.
[Before he can answer, the flap is lifted to reveal a certain girl that he'd met not but a few days ago...]

well okay... to be fair, this whole situation is not actually itto's fault. yoimiya happened to be in the area, delivering fireworks to a couple who lived in the outskirts. it was the couple's ten year anniversary, the wife asked for personalized fireworks as a gift to her husband. her eyes had sparkled the entire time she listened to the lady's recollection about their first meeting at amakane island during the summer festival, how much they hit it off right away and that it was practically love at first sight. naturally, she absolutely had to take on this super adorable request and even offered to transport the fireworks to their house in secret.
after finishing up the job, she recalls the ravings of an excitable oni about the onikabuto in this area being super! ultra!! MEGA!!! STRONG!!!! and how they are some of the most fearsome ones he's ever come across. and since yoimiya had some free time after the delivery, she thought that it would be fun to pick up a few onikabuto for the kids (itto included).
in her search for gigachad onikabutos, she wandered a bit too deep into the area, accidentally stumbling onto the hidden fatui camp. the sight of a camp out in the middle of nowhere had bewildered her but before she could even process what the heck is going on, nearby fatui agents happened to spot her, assumed she was sneaking around and took her captive in the midst of her confusion. one thing lead to another and now yoimiya found herself sitting in a tent as a prisoner with her wrists bound.
of course, waiting around is not her style at all. thus, she decides to be a huge nuisance and become teyvat's most annoying prisoner by shouting. a lot. ]
How many times do I have to tell y'all that I'm not a part of the Tenryou commission?! My pops is a way better listener and he's partially deaf!
[ the sounds of the tent's flap being unzipped catches immediately yoimiya's attention and she turns her head towards the entrance. just as she's mentally preparing herself for a showdown, her eyes widen at the sight of a very familiar face. ]
Tartaglia?! This is your camp? I thought you would have gone back to Snezhnaya by now.
[ not that she's not happy to see childe. she's very thrilled that he's still around. it's just that this situation is not exactly the most ideal way of having a reunion. ]

His agent seems to sense this, and immediately braces himself for what's to come next. The Harbinger Childe isn't known to abuse his underlings, but that doesn't mean that anyone should try to seek out his ire, as unpredictable as the man is.
Tartaglia composes himself, not quite answering Yoimiya immediately, but does lift a finger to her to let her know to give him just a minute. He turns to the agent, who straightens themselves immediately.]
Tell me, were the reports and intel on the operations within Inazuma during the Sakoku Decree kept from our soldiers here on Narukami Island?
[The agent gulps.]
No, sir.
So, then they should have known that Naganohara Fireworks was a place of refuge from the Tenryou Commission. Explain to me why they would think that they would churn out a spy for the Shogunate? Especially the one who was in charge of said operations?
[It's now that the agent knows that they'll all in deep shit, especially since it seems the girl is a friend of the Harbinger's.]
There's no excuse. Please accept my apology sir, I will reprimand those responsible.
Good. See to it.
[His agent scurries off, and the moment he's out of view, Childe's shoulders fall as he sighs in exasperation.]
Sorry about all this. They try their hardest, but I can't say that all our soldiers are the sharpest tools in the shed...
[He gives her an apologetic look as he walks into the tent. A small hydro knife is formed in his hand as he cuts Yoimiya's bonds, frowning at how tight they were around her wrists.]
Are you alright? They didn't harm you, did they?
no subject
it's thanks to that trust, she takes no issue with shutting up and letting childe do his buisness. even if he hadn't told her to, she certainly would have gone quiet watching the way the harbinger commands his underlings with intense conviction. it almost felt weird to watch, yoimiya had gotten so used to him acting as an older brother to the children, it felt as though she's witnessing a completely different side of him that she's not supposed to see.
before she could ponder any further, her thoughts are cut short by the feeling of her restraints being removed. as soon as she's freed, she happily stands up, stretches her arms and sends an assuring smile his way. ]
It's all good! I'm totally fine, they didn't lay a scratch on me. [ more like, her obnoxious shouting probably made them extremely hesistant to harm her. ] I can't really blame them, seeing an unfamiliar person stroll into their camp would certainly raise some alarm bells.
[ most people would call her crazy for trying to empathize with fatui agents. while yoimiya will never be able to fully wrap her mind around their less-than-stellar methods, she could at least understand that from their perspective, a random girl wandering around their campsite in the middle of nowhere would look beyond suspicious. there's no way anyone would believe someone stupidly screaming "i just happened to be in the area!" as a valid excuse. despite that actually being the honest to archon truth. ]
I'm so sorry for causing you trouble. If me being a knucklehead ends up bringing you problems later on down the road, I wholeheartedly promise to make it up to you! I'll take full responsibility.
[ she quickly clasps her hands together and bows her head down. it's also starting to dawn on yoimiya that if it was literally any other harbinger in charge, this situation would turn out very different. ]
no subject
Don't worry about it. There's hardly anyone that I could possibly get in trouble with, especially for something so minor. Though, I suppose that means the cat's out of the bag. You see...I'm one of the Fatui Harbingers. I'm sorry I didn't tell you, but I thought it best if I kept that under wraps with the kids around. I didn't want them to have a colored view of me from the start.
[He wasn't even sure if they knew what a Fatui Harbinger was, but he'd rather not risk it. News spreads everywhere, and even the Sakoku Decree wouldn't keep the wind of an ancient god attacking Liyue from reaching Inazuma's shores.]
I hope you'll forgive me for that.

He supposes news travels fast around Narukami Island, though he admits that he wasn't exactly being subtle with her earlier at Sanden's stand. The mask adorning her hair looks just as stunning, its intricate lines and colors making her stand out among everyone in the crowd, or at least he thinks so. It makes Tartaglia proud and happy to hear himself being called her boyfriend, and he hopes they all know in time that Yoimiya's taken. Though, it might do well that they not know his profession...thankfully he uses his code name enough that "Tartaglia" might not immediately be associated with the Fatui...]
It's a pleasure meeting you as well, [he says to Murakami,] Yoimiya's recommended your stall, so I'm excited to see what you have to offer. I'm not picky- so I'll go with your recommendation.
[Childe gives Yoimiya a light squeeze, looking down to her.]
And, whatever you recommend as well. I wouldn't want to leave not having sampled as much local specialties as I can.
[And when Murakami isn't looking, he'll wink at her.]
several months later!
It's then that he tells them of a woman he met in Inazuma, and how he'd like to bring her home for them to meet. They're surprised- ever since Ajax had come home from the woods during those fateful three days, he'd been changed. They would have never guessed he'd ever be interested in a relationship, but then he's still a young man. Maybe they were wrong...
The months after are excruciating without her. He has his own work to do, and there's always an abundance of battle for him to partake in. He doesn't feel more alive than when he's clashing blades with his opponents, but in quiet times, his mind wanders back to Yoimiya. How is she doing, is she happy, wanting to see her more than anything. Staring up at a unfamiliar ceiling in bed when he's not home completing missions for Her Majesty feels lonely now, wishing for that space to be filled with the woman he'd fallen for so hard back in Inazuma. He has to tell himself to be patient, that there will come a time where she'd be able to join him again. And finally, months and months later, that becomes a reality.
Tartaglia sends for a boat to retrieve Yoimiya, writing letters to her with his plans and asking how she'd been doing, in addition to planning this trip for her. And when the day finally comes, he waits on the pier for her, bundled completely in his scarf and coat, white as the snow surrounding him. The ice that threatens to keep ships at bay has been cleared from the shore, so that the Fatui boat that houses Yoimiya can safely dock for her departure. The Lord Harbinger's loved on is aboard, and not a single soul would dare put her in harm's way lest their Lord make each and every one of them pay the price.
When it finally comes into view, he can feel his heart skip a beat, suddenly getting nervous for no reason at all. Anxiety rips through him, having planned this for so long and worrying about each individual detail. Tartaglia has never been one to make extensive plans, always flying by the seat of his pants and forming ideas, gifts and plans around that. How he'll ever manage to not worry himself sick about something very major escapes him, but for now he gets more and more excited as the ship draws closer. The Harbinger frantically searches the deck for signs of her, wondering if she'd be trying to see every single sight for herself as she comes in. In his arms is another coat, because he's certain that whatever Yoimiya is wearing to combat the cold isn't going to be good enough for the Snezhnayan weather she now has to contend with, along with some very warm boots and a scarf and hat in a small bag he's carried with him.
As the boat docks, he stands at the bottom of the ramp, waiting patiently with baited breath. Fatui scramble to make sure she's taken care of, and Tartaglia can't wait to see her again.]

Vowing to move forward for Tartaglia's sake, she continues to live a normal, happy life in Inazuma. The following months are peaceful, Yoimiya getting into her usual escapades of making fireworks, participating in festivals, and playing with the local children. Although her smile remains bright and warm, there's still an ache in her heart that she can't wash away with her chipper attitude, the same heart that misses her beloved more than anything. During festival nights when she lights up the sky with her fireworks, she gazes at the stars, wondering how he's doing and what kind of crazy adventures he's getting himself into. Once the day is over, she lies in bed thinking about him, wishing to be enveloped in his warm arms.
His letters are what gets her through this excruciating pain, brightening up her day anytime she receives one. Several exchanges are made with plans for her to visit his homeland. Every day, she looks forward to this trip until the time has finally come for her to make the long voyage. An undercover Fatui agent assigned by the Eleventh Harbinger meets with Yoimiya, disclosing his mission to watch over her parents while she's away. Of course, the loud and brash Arataki Itto couldn't keep his nose out of business, also offering to help look after her parents. Filled with relief that her family will be well cared for, Yoimiya packs her bags, says her farewells to her mom and dad (along with wishing good luck to the poor agent bc oh boy, her dad and the Arataki gang are a lot to put up with...) and embarks on a journey across the seas to be reunited with her lover.
The week-long boat trip has brought her next adventure to the land of Snezhnaya, a snowy, frozen land dominated by endless blizzards, a region that is almost the complete opposite of the archipelagos of Inazuma. Stepping off the boat dolled up in a winter kimono belonging to her mother, the frigid air immediately hits Yoimiya, snowflakes falling in heavy chunks that prickle her skin. Huddled up in her garment, she could see her breath frosting the air as she pulls the fur scarf around her neck closer to her shivering body.
Despite not being used to this kind of weather, the glacial region of Snezhnaya is stunning, a beautiful world wrapped in a blanket of snow. The girl with a beach heart takes in the sights of the winter wonderland, awing at the frost-covered trees, the ground colored in pristine white. It's a lovely view, beyond her wildest imaginations of the land of ice and snow. As amazing as it is, the person that awaits her is far more marvelous than the wintry backdrop. From a distance, Yoimiya spots those curly, ginger locks that she's yearned to run her fingers through. While the Fatui scrambles to grab her luggage, the ecstatic blonde rushes across the dock until he's finally in view, graced with a vision of those ocean hue irises staring right at her.
Without a single word, Yoimiya runs into the arms of Tartaglia, pulling him in for a loving embrace. Not even the crisp, cold air could distract from her this magical moment, fully focused on him alone. She buries her face into his chest, basking in his warmth, taking in his scent. Even with the distance separating them, she never forgot one single detail about him, his memory forever etched into her heart. ]
I've missed you so much, Tartaglia.
[ With that, she pulls him down, slotting their lips together for a kiss she's been craving for so long. ]

The familiar golden hair tied up in in a messy, short ponytail that rides high up on the back of her head adorned by her hair accessories is the first thing he sees until she walks closer and the rest of her is visible. The red, winter kimono looks great on her even from a distance, and he feels his eyes widen at her beauty against the snow-white landscape that surrounds them. Tartaglia holds the white Harbinger jacket he's brought for her a little closer to him as he stares, heart pounding in his chest as he realizes that she's here, she's really here and it hasn't been one large fever dream he's been having about Yoimiya finally coming to Snezhnaya.
The Fatui crew of the ship can't even stop Yoimiya even as they cry "Lady Yoimiya-!" after her as she hurries across the icy dock, wanting to make sure she doesn't slip and hurt herself. But all Childe can see is his lovely Yoimiya striding towards him, and his arms open so that he can wrap them tightly around her as she presses herself against him. The ginger lets out an audible sigh of contentment now that she's back in his arms, unable to keep himself from rocking back and forth with her as his eyes close. It's been long, too long, since the last time he's held her, and waiting all these months seems to of paid off. He can't bear to let go of her, even as several other Fatui look on as the Harbinger greets his beloved. She seems even more beautiful than he remembers, but it might be the fact that he gets to see her in the astonishing view of his homeland as a backdrop in such a vibrant kimono that adds to her beauty.]
I've missed you too, more than I could ever express.
[It's a simple matter of pulling him down, he's practically on his way anyhow when he captures him in a kiss. He meets her lips with his own, hand coming up to cup her cheek as his head tilts, unable to keep himself from completely losing himself and drinking her in as they share this lip lock. Her warmth and presence chase away the frigidness of the crisp air, kissing her fervently over and over again as if his very life depends on her, chest tightening with every pass with love poured into every press of his lips to hers. He'd missed her so badly, it was as if he was wound so tight that he was ready to break on the day he knew she'd be here, only to unwind rapidly now that he has her in his arms. It's an exhilarating feeling, one that he wants to savor for as long as he can, and he dares anyone to try to interrupt it.
But when it finally ends, he reluctantly pulls away, eyes glossy with affection for her with a love drunk smile on his face.]
Welcome, [he finally manages, eyes locked with hers,] to Snezhnaya. I've brought you something.
[It's the coat in his arms- there's no way that kimono is going to cut it.]
no subject
If it wasn't for the urge to breathe, it would be so easy for Yoimiya to smooch him all day on this icy dock. As they part, she flutters her lashes at him, staring into his eyes with a besotted expression mirroring his own. Seeing the look on his face makes her want to dive in for another flurry of kisses but a wintry adventure awaits her in Snezhnaya, so for the time being, they must pull away. But she'll be sure to make up for lost time once they are alone.
Now that they've pulled away, she's able to get a good look at his appearance. The long, white coat draped over his shoulders is stunning, her chest blooms with adoration at the picturesque scene of Tartaglia dressed in white with the landscape of his frosty homeland in the background.
Utterly enamored by the sight of him, she didn't even realize he has a special present, it is only when he speaks that it finally dawns on her. Ah, he kept his promise to have a coat especially made for her. It's only natural he'd go through with it, Tartaglia is a man true to his word, never backing down on a promise. Her eyes shimmer with pure joy at the wonderful gift in his hands. ]
It's beautiful... [ And super cozy! Much more fitting for the weather than the kimono she has on. ] Thank you, I'll cherish this coat for eternity.
[ Without a doubt, this coat is one of the most lovely gifts she's ever received. A smile full of affection and love curls on the corners of her lips, her shivering hands pulling the jacket closer, huddling into the warm fabric. True to her word, she's taken good care of his mask as it sits pretty on the side of her head. With the red Harbinger mask and white coat, she feels seamlessly integrated into the Fatui. ]

the next morning
The next morning, he blinks with bleary eyes at the world, sighing in resignation that any sleep he might of gotten was lost to the past now. At least military training had prepared him for this and its not his first rodeo on barely any sleep. But the day is new and they have work to do, something he really hadn't planned on for this nice vacation they both took to spend time with each other. Ever since the events of yesterday, until they figure out what exactly happened, it's certain the rest of this won't be nice at all.
Childe kisses Yoimiya awake, happy to see her peaceful face in his bed next to him, so they can get up for the day and get ready. After they both get up, shower and dress themselves, Ajax finally will tell her exactly what he has planned.]
We're headed to the capitol today, [he explains, putting on his winter Harbinger uniform for this trip.] After yesterday, we really can't let our guard down, so we're headed to Zapolyarny Palace to see one of the other Harbingers.
[Ajax tugs on the long, black gloves that almost reach his elbow to complete the ensemble, and the navy blue with red accents of his jacket seem out of place in the log cabin. It looks more like he belongs in a military procession with that outfit on, rather than living a life in the backwoods.]
It'll be a nice spot for the day, anyway. There's plenty to do in the capitol and I can show you around, so at least half the day will be a fun experience.
no subject
So needless to say, she only got a wink of sleep, having long since given up on the notion of rest as the sun rises and filters through his windows. She can tell Ajax is in the same boat. Not only did he have to worry about her, but his family was also at risk if the entity got a hold of her. Possessed, mind controlled, what have you, Yoimiya would never ever forgive herself if she hurt one hair on any of his family's heads.
Although her body is telling her to rest up, the lovely morning kiss from Ajax is sweet, refreshing her far more than a freshly squeezed sunsettia juice. Even with danger looming in the air, she's ready to take on the day with her sweetheart at her side. ]
I'll admit, meeting your coworkers does make me a little nervous but I'm also excited to see what they're like. I'll do my best as a Harbinger's girlfriend, hehe.
[ To say her boyfriend doesn't get along with his cohorts would be the understatement of the century, he has told her... less than stellar things about them but even so, the bubbly Yoimiya is always willing to give anyone a chance.
As she changes into the kimono her mom had custom made for this occasion, she can't help but steal glances at her dashing Ajax. She could be passed on the floor tired and still be amazed at how majestic he looks with his Harbinger coat on, his gorgeous ginger locks against the pristine white coat is the most beautiful thing in Snezhnaya hands down. An absolute turnaround from country bumpkin to military officer, he looks perfect from head to toe. ]
Ooh, I'm pumped to see what Snezhnaya's capitol is like. I bet there are so many fun sights to see and lots of tasty food to try.
[ She will strive to put on her best brave face, Ajax doesn't need to suffer any more than he already has. ]
no subject
Yoimiya is definitely taking it a little seriously though. That kimono looks incredible on her, and it's nice enough that he's worried that the snow might ruin the bottom of it. Either way, she looks stunning to him, walking over towards her to wrap his arms around her middle as he presses a kiss to the top of her head, feeling blessed that he has a woman like Yoimiya in his life. His heart swells and flutters looking at her, admiration obvious on his face as he speaks.]
There is indeed. I'll take you around to some of my favorite spots. If we're lucky, none of the other Harbingers will want to join us...
[He'd probably die if Regrator caught them and asked them out for a lunch date. Seems like something he'd do and he doesn't want Yoimiya to die of boredom like he has so many times.]
I'm sure you'll make a good impression on them though. Today, we're visiting The Doctor, Second of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. Just remember you're talking to a scientist who's only interests revolve around his experiments. Brilliant probably isn't a strong enough word to describe his achievements, and having principles probably isn't a phrase that applies to him, either. But if there's anyone who might be able to help us, it's him.
[He sighs, knowing that this is just the start of their ordeal, and he doesn't like it.]
Don't go agreeing to anything he says right away. Whatever he proposes, we'll need to think about it a little. If he's got a solution, it's you who's on the line here. I won't have anything bad happen to you, especially if it's not worth the cost of what he may suggest.

If there's anyone who can show her the best spots in Snezhnaya, it's her wonderful boyfriend, she can't wait to see his favorite spots and the places he hangs out at when he's back home. His distaste for his coworkers never fails to amuse her, drawing out chirpy giggles, while she doesn't mind if they invite themselves, she'd still much rather spend special one-on-one time with her boyfriend.
She presses her lips together at the mention of The Doctor, listening in rapt attention. The Eleven Fatui Harbingers are a fearsome bunch but there's something especially dangerous about this Dottore guy. Science, experiments... none that sits well with her and if Tartaglia says that he's a man without a shred of morals, then she believes him. But in the same breath, if her boyfriend truly believes this man is their best shot at curing her, then it's a risk she's willing to take. ]
You're right, we can't jump into anything risky. If you feel like even a single one of his suggestions sounds dangerous, we can back out. I trust your judgment one hundred percent.
[ With her fingers intertwined with his, she takes his hand, bringing it to her face so she can affectionately nuzzle into the palm of his gloved hand. ]
Thank you again, Ajax. You stay vigilant too, okay? I don't know him as well as you but don't take any crazy offers on my behalf. I'd never forgive myself if something happened to you because you were trying to save me.

start of their sumeru forest search
But after several days, there's still no sign of an Aranara. He believes in Yoimiya, he knows that if she says they're real, they're real. But the fact that they haven't found one yet and it's been a few days or so is concerning.
As they follow a beaten path that heads up towards the north of the forest, he stretches his back out a little as the greenery of the trees hang over their heads.]
Whew! That last little skirmish left me a bit sweaty...I think a good wash is in order. Yoimiya, will you keep an eye out for a small pond or a river?
[Childe doesn't look it, but he's still getting used to the humid temperatures of Sumeru. He can feel his Snezhnayan body being very annoyed with him that he keeps fighting in such hot temperatures, and he's been drinking water like a madman.]
no subject
Thankfully, Yoimiya has made a swift recovery since the incident, she's still a little sore in places but nothing rest and relaxation can't cover. She's finally in the position to stand without feeling pain and requiring assistance. But even so, she still makes sure to stay close by and not stray far away from Ajax. Seraphina's powers have already proven to be unpredictable and far beyond her comprehension, if she were to wander off... the dense vegetation would be the perfect spot for a crazy stalker to kill someone. She follows close behind Ajax, taking in the canopy of lush vines and leaves above them while they make their journey. A bit of a bummer they still haven't encountered an Aranara but Yoimiya isn't one to give up, she's sure they'll find one eventually if they just keep searching. ]
Of course! Even though that Eremite stood no chance against you, you still worked up a sweat.
[ Poor Ajax, she can tell the heat is taking a toll on this Snezhnayan man. His body is used to the cold, the dense humidity probably feels like the air weighs a ton. True to her word, she keeps her eyes peeled, glancing around their surroundings for a place her beloved can cool down. As she looks around, the sounds of flowing water cause her ears to perk up, she looks over in the direction of the noise and sure enough, she spots a course of water winding through the vast jungle. ]
Oh, perfect timing! Let's head this way, Ajax. [ She points in a direction off the beaten path. ] I see a little bit of water so surely, that will lead us to a river.
no subject
He stops and looks in the direction she points, and sure enough, there's a small glimpse of water and the sound of a river flowing south towards the ocean. It's a relief that they were able to find it so quickly, and Tartaglia turns on his heel right in the direction of the river.]
Wonderful! Hopefully that'll take some of the edge off of this heat.
[He leads the way, cutting through any foliage or bushes that might get in their way. It's not long however, when he hears a splashing noise along with some tiny cries for help.]
Hey, do you hear that? I think I hear someone crying for help...
[With a renewed vigor, Ajax starts slashing his way through to the water, managing to get them both to the riverbank- only to find something indeed, in the water among the spinocrocodiles that circle around it. It's small and green with leaves growing out of its head, crying for help.]
There, I can see it! Yoimiya, I'll be right back-!
[Without hesitation, the Harbinger throws his backpack to the ground and dives right into the water, gaining the attention of the crocs with no concern for his safety at all...]

Dinner at Aramiya's
He's staring over Yoimiya's shoulder at the finished product, plated out on three different plates for the three of them to enjoy together, as Aramiya waits patiently for them to serve dinner.]
Huh. It looks delicious, but can Aranara eat spicy food...?
[He has so many questions. Why would a plant person need to eat? Wouldn't they just need water????]
no subject
Well, if Aramiya is truly a splitting plant image of myself, then I have a feeling she'll enjoy a little kick in her food. Besides, this recipe has been passed down in my family for generations, I don't see why she wouldn't.
[ Best of all, she gets to share her special family recipe with her beloved. Even if it's just a salad, Yoimiya is thrilled she got to prepare it with him. Hopefully, he can handle his spice to enjoy it.
Without further delay, Yoimiya takes the plates and sets them in front of a very excited Aramiya. The little plant looks so amazed by what she's seeing, there's so much green... a little chunks of red sprinkled all over it?! She inspects it from all angles, having never seen anything like this before. ]
Hey Aramiya! Hope we didn't keep you waiting too long. This a little something my family taught me how to make and Ajax did a splendid job preparing it. We call this the Fireworks Salad because it's guaranteed to explode in your mouth when you have a bite.
[ Most Aranara would probably be startled to hear that but not the gutsy Aramiya. ]
Wow...! This is a first for Aramiya. I've heard that Nara food is spicy enough to turn their faces red but haven't tried it for myself.
no subject
Right?
It'll be fine...]
What you heard is certainly true, though I doubt it'll be the same for you, Aramiya.
[Do Aranara even have blood to make flush, red faces? Questions he never thought he'd have.]
I haven't had this particular salad either, so we'll both be trying something new together. Bottoms up, then?
[He looks at both Yoimiya and Aramiya, before he takes a big bite of his own salad. Tartaglia's eyebrows raise immediately, tasting the spice directly on his tongue. It's so much different than the spice he was used to from Liyue, but it was good.
He tentatively looks up to Aramiya, to see what's happening over there...]

â–º Meeting with Dottore ðŸŽ
The moment they step out of Vanarana feels like waking up from a long, long dream. Despite their time in the Aranara village being short, it almost seems weird to walk out from a world with a beautiful purple sky to a realm with a blue sky and the sun's rays piercing through the lush forest. Yoimiya had gotten so used to the dark sky in Vanarana that she's almost forced to shield her eyes from the sun shining down on them. But, it's not long until she gets accustomed to the realm of the nara, her eyes adjust to the change of scenery and now, she's more than ready to take on Dottore in a battle of wits. With Ajax and Aralauka at her side, she's able to put her best foot forward and make her way to the rendezvous point. ]
Well, we're almost at the meeting spot. [ She turns her attention to their green companion. ] How are you holding up, Aralauka?
[ It's evident that the poor fella is still nervous and who could blame him? Coming face to face with the second Harbinger is probably one of the most daunting tasks any Aranara has done. ]
Aralauka is still scared... but I'm determined to see this through! Arajax and Aramiya told me to put on a brave front. They said that if the going gets tough, all Aralauka needs to do is give the big bad nara a good punch. They even showed me the ropes!
[ Of course they would. She can already picture the two feisty Aranara giving Aralauka a crash course on punching people's lights out. Not being able to come along probably kills the pair but it's for the best. Knowing those two, it wouldn't surprise her if they tried to pick a fight with the "big bad nara" ]
no subject
He silently swears to himself he won't let that happen, but luck will have to be on their side for this. He's all too aware that both of them aren't great at lying, even if Childe personally can weave a web if he wants. The problem is, he really can't be in charge of it this time.
He squints as they step out of the dream, rubbing his eyes to get used to the sunlight that had been absent from their day to day for a bit now. This was the reality where Seraphina could reach them...a thought that he tries to banish from his mind as they get closer to the designated spot.]
Hah, sounds like you're raring to go either way, Aralauka. Don't be too surprised if those two corner you in the future for more sparring sessions. Arajax certainly won't let you get away.
[He grins a devilish grin down at their Aranara pal, amused at the fact that they tried to teach Aralauka how to fight a little bit before this showdown. But who knows, those skills might come in handy.]
But let's go over the plan one last time, you two. Yoimiya, you're going to be as honest as possible about our whereabouts and plans, but tactfully avoid mentioning anything about Vanaranara or any sort of organized civilization whatsoever. We've just been lost in the rainforest for about four days now. We'll play off the invisibility angle like Dottore has the ability to see Aranara too, even though he really doesn't, since he'll be able to see Aralauka in the dream the Dendro Archon is creating for this.
[He turns to Aralauka now, to go over their script.]
And Aralauka, you just play your part as a "volunteer" for Dottore's plans. Your little body double will get swapped in the moment Lesser Lord Kusanali drops the dream and samsara cycle we're in. The minute that happens, make sure you flee back to Vanaranara as fast as your legs can carry you. Getting caught by Dottore isn't an option here. And I'll be here for any support in case he pulls anything.
[He takes a deep breath, steeling himself for this.]
Are the two of you ready? If we get this, the Aranara will be safe for a time.
no subject
But that's a problem for future Aralauka.
Anyhow, he seems to come back to the realm of Teyvat as Ajax does a play-by-play. He stays quiet for a few moments to digest the plan before finally nodding his little head. ]
O-Okay! The big bad Nara sounds so scary... but Aralauka trusts you, Orange Nara, and Lesser Lord Kusanali. I'll do whatever it takes to keep Vanarana safe!
[ The sudden burst of confidence in Aralauka's voice ignites her own spirit. Yoimiya replays Ajax's plan in her head, not finding a single flaw. All she has to do is be honest and not say a word about Vanarana. Sounds easy enough but executing it in front of Dottore is a whole other deal... but with Tartaglia and Aralauka at her side, she has faith they can pull this off. ]
That's the spirit! Don't be too scared, Aralauka. Since the big bad Nara can't actually see you, it should be easy for you to sneak out without any troubles. Besides, we got the Dendro Archon on our side and knowing her, she won't let a single one of her Aranara in Dottore's grubby hands.
[ Working together with Nahida truly is a gift from the heavens. Yoimiya inhales a sharp breath and exhales before slapping her own cheeks to get herself pumped. With that out of the way, she's ready to go. ]
I'm ready! Let's do it for all the Aranara out there.
[ Aralauka holds up his stubby arm, ready as ever. ]
Aralauka is ready too!
[ Now with the plan set in motion, Yoimiya takes another deep breath as she marches on toward their destination. In the distance, she can make out the sight of Dottore and a few Fatui soldiers awaiting their arrival. ]

The next day, heading home!
Today, he emerges from Aramiya's hut refreshed and reinvigorated, not letting their failure the day before get him down. It's up to them to make it up to the Aranara now, and he won't fail them even if it means foiling Dottore and earning a sharp rebuke at best from Jester. As long as it has an interesting battle for him to partake in, it'll be well worth it.
But there's the matter of Yoimiya. He has to keep her safe too, and though she may have discovered a new power, that doesn't mean it'll keep her safe from the more powerful Harbingers...so thinking of the best ways to keep her safe is his priority as they set off from Vanarana back to Sumeru City.]
Haha, Arajax looked pretty upset that he didn't get to fight me again before we left. I could tell he really wanted a rematch.
[Ajax laughs as they head down the dirt path that winds out of the lush foliage of Vanarana, the dream fading away behind them as the sun kisses their skin once again.]
no subject
However...
As the sun beams down on their face, Yoimiya reaches for Ajax's hand, twining their fingers together for a solemn reminder that so long as they have each other's backs, they can conquer any mountain standing in their way. That includes taking down two of the best Harbingers the Tsaritsa has to offer. Besides, she has a feeling her battle-hungry sweetheart is positively thriving at the prospect. ]
Hehe, he really is the spitting image of you in plant form, isn't he? I couldn't help but feel bad for him, poor guy really didn't want to see you leave. If he had his way, I bet he'd fight you for like a week straight.
[ Or even longer than that, tbh.
Yoimiya giggles at the mental image. Though Arajax might be small, she can see him growing into a fearsome fighter in due time. Who knows! The little guy has the potential to be her boyfriend's newest rival, and she can't wait. ]
That just means we have to come back and visit sometime! I'm sure Arajax will be hard at training while we're gone. And that should give you something to look forward to.
[ But... man, she's sure gonna miss the little stinkers. Both Arajax and Aramiya have earned a place in her heart. As Vanarana gets further out of view, Yoimiya already wishes she could see the two of them again. ]
no subject
Sighing with content after his little chuckle, he looks up to the sky imagining what life would be like when they could return and visit their Aranara friends. It's a future he can't fully imagine yet, but he can't wait for it. Coming back will have to be on the list of things they'll need to do once this grand quest is over.]
Ah, what a time it will be once we can safely return here. Think Aramiya will come up with new and improved recipes to feed us?
[That and he's sure Arajax will make her train more now. He's sure the little guy wants more sparring partners, so Aramiya's going to be a scary buff Aranara by the time they get back.]
