i wish that i could run // back into your arms

[Ajax shoots a balled up, crumpled piece of paper into the basket next to him as he waits for the appointed time.

It's a bit below his station to do so, but on occasion, the CEO of Nizhnii Corp likes to surprise people and pop into interviews or other people's offices. He gets restless in his own office, not always enjoying having to deal with the board of directors or investors. There were many that say he doesn't really fit his position, that his demeanor wasn't good for being the CEO of a company. Diplomacy was never his strong suit, but despite that the company still managed to flourish. Happy employees always made for better work- and though Ajax himself was a ruthless businessman, he still treated all his subordinates like they were family.

And that's how Nizhnii ended up with such a good reputation, and how he finds it so easy to find good applicants.

Today was no exception, and Ajax plans on making a surprise appearance for this part-timer who's hoping to land a job here. Adjusting his cufflinks on his suit as he walks down the hallway, he makes his way towards the conference room where they generally conduct interviews- and he tells HR that he'd like a little time with the potential hire first. She's already gone through their first interview, and passed it with flying colors, so now he's interested to see who exactly it is who's gotten the interest of their hiring managers. He's timed it so she should be waiting in the conference room already, provided she wasn't late- but he's sure that he wouldn't have to worry about that.

The first thing he does is pop his head in, smiling warmly at the girl waiting patiently for someone to come in to start the interview, before coming in and walking up to her.]

Good morning! Sorry to keep you waiting. I had a small matter to attend to before I was able to come down. I'm Ajax Volkov, it's a pleasure.

[He offers a hand for her to shake, before he'll politely take a seat across from her at the table.]

HR will be with us shortly, but I thought I'd take some time to get to know you a little better before we start asking the stuffy, boring questions of the interview. I hope that's alright.

Hehe, I couldn't agree more. Or we'll somehow figure it out ourselves would be even better of a scenario.

( Lumine was glad to have helped ease his mind, of course, she too was anxious and frustrated about not having the answers right away. Especially about something like this, but best they can do is have some patience.

Taking a step back to let him get up with enough room, only to get pulled into his arms she couldn't help the blush and soft smile, hands on his shoulders. His offer to work at his company again made her chuckle in amusement. )

Tempting offer, but I'm sure of it. You'd still accept me at your company after telling you off the first time?

( She won't let you annoy her at work either, Ajax lol )

Sure I would.

[As if it were a question. He's sure Lumine would be great at her job and he'd have her around all the time...not just to annoy her, of course. He just ends up being playful and maybe a bit cavalier about things...and that doesn't always jive with some people at work. They'll be okay though, he's sure they'll get over it, or they won't. Oh well.]

But, I understand if you're still not interested. I'll manage to find enough creative ways to keep you right in my arms as much as possible. Since we're both in this together, perhaps I can talk you into, say, a date tomorrow night?

[The warm comfort of their bodies pressing to each other only served to make his heart beat a little stronger when asking- it makes this feel more real, not some surreal experience like back in the wedding hall. Even now, he can scarcely believe that Lumine full on kissed him in there, and Ajax is finding that he wants for more.]

As amazing as that sounds, at this point, your HR would be getting calls about conflict of interest.

( Besides, she has a strange feeling that she wouldn't be able to get much work done with him around. Eyes brighten just a tad at the request to a date, the way he asked made her smile with a light shake of her head. )

I can't wait to see the creative ways you come up with, but sure. I'll go on a date with you. What'd you have in mind?

( That way she can know how to get dressed for the date, perhaps go shopping in the morning for an outfit to wear. Her own heart beating out of her chest and she was beginning to feel a little nervous. Not of him, but the same giddy nerves that happen before an interview. It felt much more personal now that they were alone under the stars and not surrounded by the romantic influence of the reception. )

[For whatever way he might really get in trouble at his job, his expression plainly says that he doesn't really care all that much if HR gets called on him. Ajax does what he wants when he wants to do it, and as long as there isn't ground for a law suit, he'll continue to do that. But he appreciates the little bit of ribbing she gives him for it- it makes him smile, as if they'll really be able to do anything anyway.

Ajax hums thoughtfully to himself for a second, before shrugging his shoulders at her question.]

I don't know. I was going to figure it out as I went along. I'm good at taking advantage of sudden opportunities and coming up with a plan after- I figured I'd do the same here.

[Looking down into her eyes, he studies them for a moment before he comes up with his own question:]

So I suppose I'll ask you this- are you the kind of lady who'd prefer a night out on the town, or one that likes to see a bit of action in their night? Like, let's say, if I were to take you somewhere outdoorsy? Visiting the national park, going to a rock climbing wall, something like that? Or, maybe I'll take you to laser tag...in which, you won't stand a chance against me.

Do just let me know so I'm not under or overdressed for it.

( Either way, it's best not to get attached at the hip to each other like that. She noticed his ability to thrive in spontaneity situations rather than planning. It is quite impressive, despite it probably being stressful for everyone else around him, but he's made it work out for himself so far.

His question did got her to think as well, she doesn't mind either option if she were being honest. She liked to do a bit of window shopping and just walking around with good company.

However his challenge to her laser tag skills lights a flame inside her, she takes a confident step back out of his arms to rest her fists on her hips. Challenging look in her eye, as she brings a pointed finger to poke him on the chest. )

I'll have you know, I can be quite competitive and I don't lose. Any outdoorsy activity you can think of, even if I've never done it before, I will beat you in it or give you a run for your money.

( A challenging smile on her face, with a teasing tilt of her head as she looks at him. )

That's a promise.

[Oh, now that's interesting. As Lumine removes herself from his hold to stare up at him defiantly, Ajax quickly realizes that the fire that stirs inside of her isn't just to tell off random CEO's who get under her skin in an interview. She even admits to it as such- which gets him all worked up too- eager to test his own skills against her.]

Oh ho, bold words...I expect you to live up to them.

[He reaches to take the hand poking his chest, twining his fingers with hers as he holds it there between the two of them. Ajax's eyes flash, his smile widening in more of a smirk than anything else, amused by her declaration to him.]

Don't get too distracted, or else I'll make you eat your words. Guess it's decided then...we'll start with a little laser tag. Dinner first, somewhere casual, and then we'll work off our dinner with a bit of late night laser tag. The place is open quite late, so it shouldn't be a problem. Bring a change of clothes and shoes for yourself, you'll need it.

[Things just got so much more interesting...she's a girl practically after his own heart, acting like that. Good. He wouldn't have it any other way.]

Oh I will, I guess we'll just see when we get there.

( Lumine can feel her heart skip a quick beat when he easily twines his fingers together with hers. Holding his hand in return, she can see she's lit up a challenging side to him too. Something they share equally it seems, which should be a new thing she's learnt. But it feels like she knew this already.

He knew how to get her competitive streak going because how dare he hehe. A smirk playing on her face at his words. )

I'm sure I can beat you at laser tag in a dress and heels. But we'll just have to see who wins and gets the most shots. You'll get beat by someone in a dress and heels.

[Challenge accepted, it seems. Ajax laughs, easily falling back into that comfortable, warm feeling that spreads in his chest as he holds her hand. This back and forth feels familiar too, like the two of them have challenged each other multiple times like this as well.]

Hah! We'll see indeed. Just make sure you bring your best, Lumine.

[But now that they've set up their date, taunted each other appropriately, it's time to enjoy the rest of their night. Ajax lets go of her hand so he can maneuver himself next to her, slipping his arm around her back and wrapping it around her so he can let his hand rest on her side, coaxing her to come and leave with him from the park. He's had enough fresh air to think a little more clearly, and taking a walk sounds nice.]

But we do have the rest of the night tonight as well. Could I bother you to stay with me a little while longer? We can walk and talk for a bit, before you have to return home.

( Just something about their way of taunting each other was different than she does with her friends. Ears perked at the sound of his laughter, her smile widening just a bit to find herself pleased. )

I will. Don't you go easy one me, Ajax.

( Her heart pounding so loudly in her ear, feeling his arm wrap behind her, looking up at him with a bashful smile. Nodding her head up at him, almost a permanent blush on her cheeks and ears. )

Yeah, you can bother me anytime... ( She chuckles lightly as she follows him in this walk. ) You haven't had enough of me already?

No, of course not. If I had it my way, I'd probably keep you out later than your brother would approve of.

[It comes to easy to say too, without any hesitation and a laugh to boot. No, he doesn't want to make Aether angry, but he also wants what he wants, and that's to be with Lumine right now.]

I...wanted to ask you something. I'm very happy with how things have turned out, I really am, but...back at the reception, I wasn't expecting you to kiss me like that the second time. You really surprised me there.

[It feels silly to ask now, but Ajax is curious either way.]

What made you do it?

( She laughs as well, feeling her chest warm up with affection at the way he can easily confess these things. That he'd want to spend as much time with her as he can, despite them making plans already for tomorrow. )

He just doesn't want me to walk home or catch a ride with a stranger. I think you made a good impression on him, he's disapproved of a few exes.

( Hearing him ask a question, she looked up at him as she nods along with his words. Curious what his question was going to be, but as soon as he brought up the second kiss they had shared.... She looks straight ahead with a blush to her cheeks, reaching all the way to her ears.

She did get too ahead of herself back then, didn't she? She just was caught off guard on the topic and wasn't prepared. But she can remember the familiar warmth she felt, the instinct she had to just kiss him as much as she could. Lumine pouted her lips with pink cheeks, looking away from him so he couldn't see how bashful she'd gotten. )

I was just... Mm, I don't know it just felt like the first kiss brought on a wave of emotions out of me. The only way to express it was to kiss again, that's all.

( She can feel her pounding heart in her ears, face burning red, butterflies in her chest. )

...That's all...

[Ajax debates on telling Lumine how cute it is when she gets all bashful and turns away, even if he'd rather be able to see that beautiful face of hers instead. He can tell she's gotten a little embarrassed, but he's already made up his mind to make it up to her somehow, to make her less self-conscious about it. Though, her answer isn't surprising to him. He'd felt that too, maybe in a different way than her, but still. There was no denying that sense of warmth and familiarity, the want to kiss her a little more passionately and little more deeply. Lumine had just acted on it, instead of him.]

That's all?

[It sounded and felt like a bit more than a simple that's all. Ajax laughs softly, leaning his head out and towards her, trying to see her face. She's probably as red as a tomato after saying that, he's willing to bet.]

Haha, you know, I'm glad you did. In fact, I'd like it if you kissed me like that more often.

That's all.

( Lumine furrowed her brow in bashful stubbornness, keeping her head turned as far as she can so he can't lean forward and see her face. Almost out of instinct like she knew he would without even looking at him. Using her free hand to reach up and push his face away by the jaw from catching how much she was blushing from her admission and from his own admission as well.

Though just based on the way he returned her second kiss, she had a feeling he did like it as well. But it didn't make the bashful blush die down any faster. )

Well, ahem, not tonight you won't. At least not initiated by me, but I will reciprocate any...

( Her heart pounding in her chest, turning her head a bit to look at him in the corner of her eye. )

[Ajax laughs as she pushes his face away, letting out a soft chuckle once Lumine's palm smushes his cheek and he finds himself just a few more inches further away than he had been a second ago. But he keeps his arm around her middle, thankful for the closeness between them both.

Because whew, she was not helping to quell the urge to pour affection all over her with the way she's acting. He's sure there's a word for the way Lumine is acting right now, but he doesn't know what it is. Only that it amuses him to no end, and his eye catches the corner of her own when she glances back at him.]

Okay, I get it. You want a little bit of fairness here- and I'd be more than happy to oblige.

[Ajax doesn't waste the moment, stepping out while still keeping her in his arm, so now it would be near impossible for Lumine to hide her face due to how he's mostly standing in front of her now, reaching to cup her cheek with his free hand. He gazes down at her for only a moment, endearment written all over his features before leaning in to capture her in a kiss, soft yet full. Ajax lets his lips sweep and caress her own, taking several moments to deliver a warm and loving exchange, hoping to enchant her and get that bashful lady of a few seconds ago to open up and invite him in just as she had back at the reception. Kissing her feels like heaven, and any anxiety and worry he might of still been holding on to dissipates like a vapor into the air.]

Mmmmmmm...

[He hums happily into their kiss, not breaking from her until his head is light and his breath is completely taken away.]

I really could get used to this...

( Lumine held her hand to her chest as she hummed. Her heart pounding in her chest as she watched him move with ease to stand in front of her. Close as possible, his hand warm on her cheek and unlike her own earlier, his palm held a tenderness to it. Eyes lid heavily watching him come closer and closer, allowing him to look at her bright cheeks and dilated pupils, looking at him with her own affections.

Subconsciously, as though pulled in by her rush of affection for him, begin to lean up as well, hand resting on his shoulder before wrapping around his neck once they kissed.

This kiss shared as they both were prepared for it, the affection of his kiss making her heart soar. Pressing back into the kiss, she hummed against his lips, sweeping and caressing against his own. Bashfulness pushed aside as she focuses solely on keeping the kiss going. Lips tingle with the kiss, humming softly as strong gust of love sweeps her heart around her chest, slowly deepening the kiss to slower sweeps.

Thankfully he broke the kiss, feeling her lungs lacking air, his words whispered to her lips sent a chill down her spine and she huffed a breathy chuckle. )

Careful... I still have to get home at the end of the night.

( She makes the tease as well as pressing another kiss to his lips, a quick one but still with enough emotion behind it. Despite saying that, she just can't stop wanting to kiss him. )

[Ajax quickly realizes that if he's allowed to indulge in Lumine as much as he wants, he'll get addicted to her faster than he can blink. And quite frankly, this is exactly what he wants, getting swept away by her affection and falling into a deep, love-induced haze where all he can see and all he can think about is Lumine. She kisses him so perfectly, in a way that only someone who knows his heart could- and it baffles him that he could feel this way with a person he's only just met. But then, logic will tell him that there's something strange going on between them, but for now he enjoys the moment, letting himself get lost in his emotions.

He returns her second, shorter kiss, still feeling the swell of adoration he has for her come and wash over him. Ajax feels as if he really could kiss her all night, and he laughs at her light tease.]

So as long as I get you home at some point, that means I can have you all to myself the rest of the night?

[He counters her tease with a suggestion of his own, wondering how she'd react to it. He doesn't see any problem with tempting her into his arms for as long as possible, and will take anything he can get away with.]

If so, you know I'll get you home safely, all you have to do is say the word. Whenever you're ready to leave we'll go.

[If she wants to go...and Ajax definitely will use every charm in the book to elongate this.]

You...

( Lumine fears ~~does she really??~~ that she is also falling addicted to the man before her. The way he looks at her and can't seem to want to let her go for too long even if they were going to see each other again real soon the next day for their date. His ability to return her tease with words that can send her face ablazing, she just stares deep into his eyes.

His promise soon after to get her home safely, and though she should not be trusting him so openly, she can't help but know deep in her heart he was telling the truth. Her main hesitance being Aether's worry for her. She has to really think about it, before going with her heart.

Unwrapping her arms for a moment, she goes in her purse to pull out her phone. Her heart wants to be with Ajax longer, as though it longs for his company. Opening her messages with Aether and begin to type out to her brother:

Lumine: Get some sleep for work brother. A dear friend is going to get me home safe. I promise I'm not walking alone.

Putting her phone away in her purse, with a smile back up at him, giving him a soft nod. )

I can stay for a bit longer...

[He swears he could stare into those golden eyes of hers all day if she let him, mesmerized by how doe-eyed she is when she considers staying with him. Ajax can only hope that she takes his offer, and when she lets go to take out her phone and text who he can only assume is her brother, he feels the swell of victory in his chest. His expression turns into something more excited and soft at the same time, wrapping his arm around her once more to pull her right into his side so they can enjoy the rest of the night together.]

Wonderful. Now, how shall we spend our time, since we now have more of it? There's still a bit of time left in the evening- since we're going to laser tag tomorrow, maybe something a little more relaxing and low key would be in order?

[After having something so strange happen to him, he can think of a few things to do that would relieve some stress.]

You know, this may sound odd for an impromptu date, but all I want to do is soak in a nice, hot jacuzzi after a night like this. A glass of wine, good company...sounds like a great cap to an extraordinary evening.

( Lumine raises an amused brow at the idea for the impromptu date, odd indeed. But it does sound quite relaxing the more she thinks about it. It'd throw her off the moment she does think about how they weren't prepared for a dip in the jacuzzi. )

It does sound quite odd, but a great way to end the night, though I didn't prepare a swim suit for the date.

( She is sure he neither as they both didn't know the other was arriving to the same wedding. But she will do anything to spend more time with him and if she has to she'll get in in her dress. )

I assume you know where to find one?

Well, I know where to find a jacuzzi, and, well...I suppose we could always buy you a swim suit if needed.

[He laughs, clearly not having thought that plan through before he'd suggested it. It was on a whim, something that felt like a nice idea. But with Ajax being Ajax, he can figure out how to make it work to his, and in this case, her advantage as well.]

I'm honestly surprised you didn't shoot that idea down. I was expecting a no. But, I'm glad that you're amenable to it. So how does that sound? We can either buy you one, quickly stop at your place to pick yours up, or you can just borrow a pair of my shorts and a shirt and you can tie it around yourself, haha.

[The last part is meant as a joke, but he does have a lot of oversized shirts that she could tie the bottom part up into a makeshift bikini top, if she wanted.]

Though your brother will surely get suspicious if we stop to get yours.

( She too laughs, already figuring out his spontaneous nature to her more thoughtful nature was going to be fun. Giving a shake of her head in amusement, trying to think if there's anywhere open where she can get a bathing suit. Unless wherever this jacuzzi is will have some for sell for moments like this. )

Well, it sounds quite relaxing, actually. I've also never been in one so I wanted to try it out.

( Hearing his ideas, she shakes her head at his idea of a makeshift bathing suit, though he's right. Aether would be heavily suspicious if he caught her coming home just to leave with her bathing suit. Unable to help look him from top to bottom, she probably will drown not in jacuzzi water but his clothes. )

Where's this jacuzzi you want to relax in? Perhaps they have a small shop with one to buy.

[See, this is the part he left out because he's still expecting a no somewhere. He smiles, throwing a hand behind his head, like he might get in a small amount of trouble for suggesting this, but:]

My home, of course.

[He's a CEO and has money practically plastered to his walls. He definitely has a jacuzzi and an in-home pool.]

Hopefully that doesn't change your mind at all about this.

( Lumine just waits patiently for the answer, only to hear it was at his house. That explains why he offered her his clothing as a makeshift swim suit. She can't imagine him having a little shop near his jacuzzi. )

That is quite bold. Before our first date?

( It was conflicting, she wants to say no, to go home or hang out someplace else. The responsible thing would be to say no, but... She really did want to spend time with him. )

I suppose I'll still go...

( Besides she does pack a mean punch if he turns out to be a creep under all the sweetness he portrayed himself. Her brother and her had to survive together somehow. )

I still need a swimsuit though. So, I'll have to buy one.

[Whew, what a relief. He definitely feels a little embarrassed now by the hesitation in her voice, but he's determined now to make it so she doesn't regret saying yes. His eyes brighten, turning them to walk back towards his car at the reception, so they can get going.]

Haha, thank you for not rejecting me outright. I promise it'll be an enjoyable time.

[He holds his hand over his chest in earnest, as they walk down the road back. Watch out Lumine, he's going to threaten you with a good time.]

We can drop by a department store on the way over. It should be easy to find something in your size.

( Lumine hums in response with a smile at how happy he'd gotten that she agreed to go with him to his home. Walking back with him and to his car giving a nod of her head. )

You're welcome. ( Letting an amused chuckle escape at being thanked, though she appreciates that he values her time. ) Now I'm looking forward to it.

( She goes into her purse as she walks, making sure she has her credit card on hand. No way was she going to let him pay anything for her. )

Hopefully, otherwise we'll have to go to my home and hope that Aether listened and went to sleep. Though Paimon will want to come with us when she sees me leave.
