you hide your face with your disguise // 'cause someone filled your head with lies
[It had been a few days since the hunt for the Great Mujina Youkai had come to an end, having to say goodbye to the kids and to Yoimiya too. The ship that was to take him back to Snezhnaya would be arriving a bit later in the day, and Childe sighs as he sits back in his chair in the tent he's occupying in one such hidden Fatui camp. He had a great time in Inazuma. The country was beautiful, rich with a new culture to learn and all sorts of places to explore and fight new and more exciting enemies. All his things were in order- the gifts that he'd bought to bring back to his family, Teucer's Onikabuto in a little bug box with some food to keep it alive during the trip back- all he'd have to do is wait for the ship and he'd be on his way.
He tells himself that he'd return to the country one day, once tensions between the Fatui and the Shogunate calm down. It was a miracle that he was able to stay as long as he has, evading the Tenryou Commission. He has some people to thank for that, and he won't forget what they did for him while he's been here. Some gifts would be in order for them upon his return.
The Harbinger idly plays with a writing utensil between his fingers. He'd like to bring something from Snezhnaya for Yoimiya, too.
There's a sharp rap at his door, and Childe sighs. He doesn't really want to deal with work right now, perfectly happy reminiscing on the time he's spent in Inazuma before he leaves, but answers with a bored tone to his voice:]
Come in.
[An agent enters, bowing and standing at attention.]
Sir, we've captured a Tenryou Commission spy that was found sneaking around. We've taken her into custody and are awaiting your orders on how to deal with her.
[Childe's eyebrow raises. It should have been hard to find this camp, even by the Shuumatsuban. Somehow, doubt creeps into his mind, but stands from his chair.]
Alright, I'll deal with it myself. At least I can have one last bit of fun before I depart.
[The agent only bows once more, to lead Childe towards the prisoner. He knows better than to argue with the Harbinger, but feels sorry for the spy. The two cross the camp to another tent, the agent stopping him right before lifting the flap for his senior commander.]
She claims to be from the fireworks shop, but we've seen Tenryou soldiers stop frequently at it.
[Before he can answer, the flap is lifted to reveal a certain girl that he'd met not but a few days ago...]

I'm sure there's nothing that the Doctor could do to me that would be worse than what I've already faced.
She lets that statement linger in the air, feeling her heart sink at the grim reminder that Ajax has been through so much, he's lived an actual nightmare and been through terrible ordeals no one should have to deal with. Poor guy has seen horrors way beyond her comprehension, it fuels her own determination to get stronger. If Ajax was able to use his ordeal as a way to grow, then she shouldn't be sitting around in fear feeling sorry for herself.
Ajax is working so hard to help her, she has to find the strength to fight too. He truly is the light of her life. As soon as he mentions playing around with his soldiers, her face brightens and perks up with interest. ]
Really?! I'm allowed to poke fun at them? Oh, thank you, Ajax! I'll try not to be too naughty. [ After all, some of them might be Tartaglia's men and she still wants to befriend them. ] But I hope I can get a few laughs out of them.
[ Those poor soldiers are about to face the explosive little firecracker that is Naganohara Yoimiya. ]
---
[ Thankfully, no mind control, no possession, or any troubles happened during their trip to the capital. Yoimiya is whelmed with a sense of relief as the caravan drops them off without any problems. There's still that uncertainty but hopefully, hopefully, with this many crowds of people out and about, the entity won't be brazen enough to try something crazy. Still, they both have to stay vigilant but that's not going to stop her from enjoying the day with her boyfriend.
After doing a little bit of sightseeing and grabbing a quick bite to eat at a nearby restaurant, it's time to go to the place they came here for; the Zapolyarny Palace. Her jaw drops as soon as the incredible palace comes into view, the round structure points skyward is covered in snow, it's both beautiful and imposing, a fitting castle for the Cryo Archon who rules over the sheer cold. ]
Wow... so this is the famous Zapolyarny Palace? The structure is beautiful.
no subject
Showing her around the city a little, getting a bite to eat and then heading to the Palace has gone well enough and he hopes their luck continues. Maybe it wasn't as big of a problem as he thought, or maybe that thing was biding its time, maybe it found a different sacrifice that couldn't fight back as hard. Who knows, but he can't get that bad feeling to stop lingering in his thoughts throughout the day. It's not worth the risk to find out otherwise either.
At least now, they're here. Maybe that luck will also help them find a solution to the problem they're having. He looks over to Yoimiya as her jaw drops in awe of the Palace. Tartaglia supposes he's seen it enough times at this point in his life that he doesn't really notice how incredible it really is.]
Only a building such as this could possibly be worthy of Her Majesty, the Tsaritsa. It's just as elegant inside, wait till you see it.
[Tartaglia leads Yoimiya in, past guards that look at the both of them funny- who's the blonde and why is she wearing Lord Childe's mask? They of course, won't say a word to the Lord Harbinger who's at the Palace today, letting them pass without so much as a peep.]
These halls are for us as well, it's a sort of meeting place and home base for the Harbingers. Rarely are any of us all here at the same time, due to our duties, but it's nice to come back to as a place of respite after a mission. I've got my own quarters here, and deeper inside, lies Her Majesty's quarters. We won't be heading in that direction, and I wouldn't count on seeing her. I rarely get to see her, haha.
[He begins to explain the Palace to Yoimiya as they enter into a foyer with a ceiling that's impossibly high, ice chandeliers hanging in every open spot along with banners that bear the Fatui insignia hanging from columns that line the great hall. Ajax starts to head off to their left, where a corridor stands that leads farther into the Palace.]
Dottore's quarters are this way, and he should already be aware of our visit. He seems like a pretty polite person, but I wouldn't say anything to get on his bad side. I personally don't know him all that well, and I've heard he's made segments of himself at different times of his life, so we very well may not be meeting the original Doctor. I've been meaning to ask him about that...
[Unbeknownst to the couple, they're being followed...]
no subject
Oh my gosh, you're right. It's beautiful not just on the outside but inside as well. It feels like we're walking through a stunning work of art made in ice.
[ The quintessential castle for the Tsaritsa. She happily trots alongside him, sticking to him like glue because wow this palace is massive. Yoimiya can already see herself getting lost without Ajax to guide her. She listens to him while marveling at the ice chandeliers, mesmerized by the frozen beauty that lights up the space with a glassy shine. ]
Segments of himself...? [ That's... a lot to take in. Goodness, she's not sure what to make of something so completely out of the realm of her possibility. ] I'd like to ask about that too. I didn't realize something like that was even possible...
[ Engrossed with their conversation, Yoimiya is too bewildered by Dottore's accomplishments to realize the person following them is getting closer and closer. ]
no subject
It's a wonder of science, alright. I was thinking about asking him to make one of me so I can fight it to the death...
[Tartaglia stops mid sentence and mid walk, sensing that presence now. His whole body goes rigid, spring loaded and ready to attack or defend them, his hand reaching out in front of her to stop them. He quickly turns around to look around the corridor, and then from seemingly out of nowhere is a familiar voice:]
Childe! I heard you were coming with your lovely girlfriend today.
[His face drops immediately, annoyance and despair washing over him like a wave. The friendly, professionally polite voice of Regrator greets them, and he turns to see his fellow Harbinger approach them from only Tsaritsa knows where.]
Could you refrain from doing that?! You gave us a scare!
[Childe scolds him outright, sighing as he sets his arms akimbo. What does this guy want...]
My apologies, I just saw the two of you walk in and couldn't resist coming over to say hello.
[He turns towards Yoimiya, bowing.]
Forgive my manners. I am Regrator, Ninth of the Fatui Harbingers- but you can also address me as Pantalone, if you wish. Welcome to the Fatui, miss...?
no subject
But before she can inquire any further, Ajax's sudden battle stance takes her by surprise. She sees him whipping around and immediately, she steels herself for a possible threat. Did he sense the mysterious entity's presence...?
No, it's just a man with long black hair and glasses, a.k.a Regrator, one of the famous Harbingers. Yoimiya is surprised he managed to catch them off guard but at least she's able to calm her jumpy heart. It's just the guy that yaps her boyfriend's ears off... ]
Hello! It's great to meet ya, I'm Naganoahara Yoimiya.
[ Now that she's feeling a little less on guard, she greets Pantalone like she would anyone else; with a bright, friendly smile. The complete opposite of Ajax who has his arms on his hips and looking less than thrilled. ]
Tartaglia has told me all about you. I believe you're quite the expert on the financial side of things, right?
[ Gonna refrain from mentioning how much she knows about Ajax being on the receiving end of his yap fests while he dies on the inside. ]
no subject
That's right. You've heard of Snezhnaya's Northland Bank, yes? That's a little project of mine. I handle all of the Fatui's books in regards to our...financial responsibilities. If you'd like, I can help set you up with an account with us. I promise you'll find it rewarding- we're not like other banks.
[He can see it coming, Regrator's already trying to lure another person in to his scheme, even if he would also recommend Northland Bank since that's his bank too. But Ajax is going to step in now before this gets too far, they don't have all that much time to talk about finances and he's got a feeling that it'll bore the ever living shit out of Yoimiya too.]
Okay, okay, that's something we can discuss later. There isn't a branch of Northland Bank in Inazuma anyway, and there probably won't be for some time...and we all know who we have to thank for that.
[A dead lady.]
We really don't have the time to chat right now. We have an appointment with someone else.
[But Regrator doesn't let them go right away, as if he knew who it was they were there to see. And he doesn't hide that fact.]
Yes, you're here to see the Doctor, correct? Yoimiya, you don't mind if I tag along, do you? If you're going to see him, surely there's something you need help with, and I may be able to help too.
no subject
But she will put the Northland Bank in the back of her pocket to ask Ajax about later, curious about the person responsible for ruining Pantalone's Northland Bank expansion in Inazuma. Rip Inazuma branch...
The Harbinger's reputation precedes him, there's definitely more to Regrator than a guy who likes to babble about mora. Just when she thought Ajax managed to secure an escape route for them, he somehow sees right through them and even invites himself. Yoimiya's face settles into one of surprise at the mention of Dottore, completely taken aback that he knew about their arrangement. ]
Oh, well... I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a second opinion. But...
[ Yoimiya is just too darn nice to refuse anyone. She looks over at Ajax, wanting to get his opinion first before committing to anything. It's suspicious he wishes to follow them and she can't rule out the possibility the other Harbinger has some ulterior motives. ]
no subject
It's fine. You can tag along if you wish, but we're here for a very serious matter. There's something strange lurking in a cave near my hometown of Morepesok- and its presence there is severe enough that I'm seeking help. I hope that helps you understand the severity of the situation.
[Childe's voice could not be more deadly serious, and his fellow Harbinger nods his head. There's really not a whole lot of things in this world that can get the battle-crazed Eleventh worried about something he can't face off against himself, so for Childe to say so, even makes Pantalone's forehead crease in concern.]
I see. Alright, then let's go see Dottore. I can wait to be filled in when we meet with him.
Let's go.
[Ajax gestures to the two of them, to make their way down the long corridor to an office at the end of it. The two Harbingers take the lead, with Tartaglia taking Yoimiya's hand so she can walk with him at his side, knocking politely on the door once they reach it to be greeted by what sounds like an elegant baritone that beckons them all in. Pantalone opens the door for the two of them, allowing Childe and Yoimiya to enter first as he follows them in.
In the large, cold office, sits a desk with many scientific trinkets on it, file cabinets and bookshelves lining the walls, and another door that leads to archons knows where on the left side of the room. Dottore sits behind his desk, finishing up penning something on a piece of paper that now gets pushed to the side as he looks up from behind the mask worn on his face that hides his eyes, laying them on Regrator first.]
Right on time. I didn't know I'd be receiving an extra guest today, but I'm in a good mood so I don't mind.
no subject
The corridor is long and feels never-ending. As the trio approaches the Doctor's quarters, Yoimiya can feel her nerves rattling inside her chest with every step she takes. It's rare for her to feel even a shred of anxiety but after everything Ajax has told her about Dottore, there's no denying this man is dangerous on all fronts. But thankfully, Ajax's warm hand eases her worries, providing her with the comfort she needs. She gives him a gentle squeeze of appreciation, now feeling fired up and determined to see this through as the large, imposing door opens for them.
Cold, ominous, and lacking any warm emotions, Dottore's office is fitting for a mad scientist who only cares about his next experiment. Some of those scientific trinkets are utterly foreign to her and goodness, she does not wish to know where that other door in the back leads to. Curious minds don't need to know that much. ]
Hahaha, I'm glad to see you're in a good mood, Doctor. I hope you don't mind my sudden intrusion. I just so happened to run into these two and since they are in need of help, I thought I could lend my assistance. From what Tartaglia has told me, you're about to have quite the case on your hands.
[ But he'll let the couple tell the whole story before he yaps too much and earns even more ire from a certain ginger. Now that the floor is on them, Yoimiya takes a deep breath and does her best to stay composed in the face of Dottore's stare. ]
Hello, it's nice to meet you. I'm Naganohara Yoimiya, Tartaglia's girlfriend. From what he has told me about your many achievements, we believe you're the only one who can help us with our problem.
[ She hopes that buttering him up with praise is a good enough incentive. Every word she says does hold truth, if the Second Harbinger of the Fatui can't help, then it's hard to imagine anyone else who can. ]
As you know from his letter, we're here with a request. When we were visiting a cave at Morepesok, we were attacked by some mysterious entity neither one of us could see. And... it took control of not just my mind but my body as well.
no subject
Childe seems to sense this as well, and he knows one wrong move and they're going to get a no from him.]
It also managed to control me for a moment as well, [he chimes in,] rendering me complacent with its plans as it commanded Yoimiya to kill herself. If it weren't for the power of my delusion, I may not of snapped out of it in time.
[His voice is quieter, not happy that he had to admit that to his superiors, but if they were going to find a way to help Yoimiya, it's information Dottore needs to know. In response, the Doctor now raises an eyebrow- at first, it sounded like something simple, possibly beyond his level of interest, but it seems the young couple has more to say.]
You're not telling me anything that is of great concern to me so far. Any number of entities that exist could pull something like that off, and it's hardly worth my attention. You're a Harbinger too, Childe- this is something you should be able to handle. Or, if all it wants is her, just give her to it- then you'll be rid of your little problem once and for all.
[His response is cold, seeing it only as something simple like a spirit, but he researched those already in Inazuma centuries ago- not worth the time, really. But it sets Tartaglia off, seeing that as an invitation to a fight since this is real problem that he's struggling to deal with.]
Hey! Watch your words, if you even so much as make another remark like that, I'll happily make you pay for it. This isn't just one of your experiments that you can dismiss or throw away as you please!
[Fuming, Tartaglia's hand balls into a fist and the hand holding Yoimiya's squeezes it with an unbridled rage that's ignited inside of him at the suggestion of just feeding Yoimiya to the sharks. Dottore seems unmoved by this display of aggression, picking up his quill and beginning to write something on a new piece of paper as he speaks.]
This also isn't something that sounds like it can't be solved by an exorcist or some other lowly cretin who dabbles in thaumaturgy. You let your fear cloud your judgement and you clearly didn't think this through- so give me one more good reason why I should lift a finger to do anything about your "spirit" here.
no subject
Intrusive thoughts that are completely unlike her start to take over her headspace. Ordinary, plain, a mere peon... that's all she will ever amount to. She's lucky that someone as magnificent as Ajax even gave her a passing glance.
That's right. You're weak and pathetic. No wonder the Doctor isn't willing to help, there's nothing special about you. Look at all the trouble you've caused, your beloved is forced to grovel and suffer because of you. All of his problems will be solved if you vanish.
From the dark depths of her heart, the voice returns to haunt her but instead of possession, the entity wants to wear her spirit down to dust. But maybe the voice has a point. Maybe Dottore isn't wrong. If she was out of the picture then Ajax could go on all sorts of adventures, he could partake in all the grand battles his heart desires, and wouldn't have to worry about his weak girlfriend who can't even defend her own mind from the presence lurking inside of her.
No. This isn't like her at all.
She can't let the flames of her bright spirit diminish, not when Ajax is fighting tooth and nail to save her. Throwing in the towel is the antithesis of the Pyro Vision gifted to her, a symbol of her aspirations that burn hotter than the sun itself. She needs to prove that not only is she worthy of the gift that was bestowed to her by the gods but also a partner strong enough to stand by the Eleventh Harbinger's side.
If it wasn't for Ajax's hand, Yoimiya might have broken down right then and there, his presence alone gives her the strength to keep fighting. She can feel the scorching hot rage in his squeeze, warming her heart that he'll never give up on her. Needing a moment to gather her thoughts, she chooses to remain silent while listening to their back and forth, doing her best to look unbothered by Dottore's harsh words as her fingers brush over Tartaglia's knuckles in hopes of cooling his anger. ]
Now, now, Doctor. It's rare for Childe to request help from another Harbinger. It wouldn't hurt to show him a little bit of grace and help him out as your colleague, would it?
[ Pantalone quickly steps in to extinguish the flames of this fight that's about ready to break out. While he doesn't particularly care about the fate of Tartaglia's lover, he's not interested in the ramifications of being involved in a dispute between the Second and Eleventh. But despite trying to be impartial, it's clear Regrator has his own agenda. Childe's strength is a useful asset and the Ninth rationalizes that if he shows even the slightest bit of goodwill, maybe he'll be obligated to help him as a "fair exchange".
It's obvious the two men are only interested in talking to their fellow Harbinger but for good reason— he's their coworker. So now more than ever, Yoimiya needs to prove she's worth talking to. They only have one last chance to grab Dottore's attention, so she has to make this count. ]
I took a trip to Sumeru shortly before coming to Snezhnaya. During my visit, I learned about those little forest spirits called the Aranara. I know this might be hard to believe but I actually saw one of them with my own two eyes and much to my surprise, I later found out that only children can see them.
[ After promising to protect those innocent creatures, it kills her to make this confession. But desperate times call for desperate measures and if she were to put herself in the shoes of a mad scientist, then surely earning the trust of the Aranara is something that could catch the interest of anyone that is even remotely familiar with Sumeru. ]
From my experience in Sumeru to what happened in the cave, there have been too many abnormal occurrences for me to chalk it up as possession by a "spirit". I need to know if everything I've been experiencing is connected in some way, which is why we figured your knowledge would be the key to helping our situation. But if you're still not interested, I'll be happy to walk out and no longer waste your time.
no subject
But what catches him off-guard is what Yoimiya says next.
Tartaglia's head turns in surprise. She'd mentioned something of the sort when she arrived in Snezhnaya, but it was in the form of that cute little wood carving. Aramiya, plip-plod, plip-plod, if he remembers right. She's selling those little creatures out for her own life, he can see it. She doesn't know, doesn't understand what that will mean for those Aranara if the Doctor is able to get a hold of them. She's just shared the method to see them, and everything...but at the same time, he knows deep down that he'd of done the same in her shoes. In fact, he'd do the same in his current shoes. Yoimiya matters way more to him than some forest spirits that only children could see, and he doesn't care all that much about their fate to be honest. It's just too bad, is all.]
You can see them?
[There's a clear intrigue in the Doctor's voice. That admission was more than enough to get him to reconsider his position, especially since all other attempts to capture an Aranara have gone unsuccessful. No one can see them, save for children...but how is it that this Inazuman girl, fated to be killed by the will of some evil spirit, can see them?
He sits back in his chair, putting the quill down and folding his hands over each other against his chest.]
Now you have my attention. I've been working to capture one for my own research for quite some time, young lady. If you're not lying to me...I might be able to help you with your spirit problem. Tartaglia, you didn't tell me you had such a talented partner.
I didn't know, [Childe says slowly, a quiet response displaying his own shock.]
It doesn't matter, the truth is out now- capture an Aranara for me, and I'll give you something that will layer the protection to your mind, and strengthen your abilities. It's still in its experimental stages, so you will be an excellent test subject for it. Do we have a deal?
[Ajax looks over to Yoimiya, unable to respond for the moment- that's something she'll have to decide.]
no subject
She's already earned their trust just by being herself. It will be so easy for her to lure one that's none the wiser...
...
No. There's no way she can bring herself to do that. Geez, what's wrong with her? Ever since they left that dreadful cave, she's been having horrible thoughts completely unlike herself.
Guilt already eats away at her consciousness, just imagining a scared and confused Aranara in the hands of Dottore leaves a pit in her stomach and rips her heart in two. Handing one of them on a silver platter goes against her promise to those creatures, she would also never be able to look Avin in the eye ever again. How can she call herself a protector of children's dreams if she uses an innocent forest spirit to save her own skin? As brilliant as Dottore is, there's no guarantee his methods are the cure she needs. With that in mind, Yoimiya is able to bravely look the Second straight in the eye, golden irises burning with a firey determination as she lays down her answer. ]
If capturing one of those precious creatures just for you to treat it like a test subject is part of the deal then I'd rather take my chances elsewhere.
[ Maybe her own fate has been sealed but there's no way she could go on with her life while an innocent Aranara suffers because of her selfish actions. Not to mention... if he gets ahold of one, there's no telling what will happen to the rest of them. Yoimiya would never be able to live with the guilt of sending those sweet creatures to their doom. ]
Ah, seems like your proposal might have been too much for her, Dottore. A shame, really. Certainly would have been interesting to see one of those forest spirits in the flesh.
[ Unmoved by Pantalone's words, Yoimiya simply turns to Ajax, steadfast in her decision and ready to leave. ]
Let's get out of here, Tartaglia. Surely there's someone else out there who is willing to help us.
no subject
Tartaglia stays silent for the moment, as Pantalone interjects. Dottore hadn't counted on her heart of gold, and he knows that it's bad enough for her that she probably already feels like she's betraying those creatures. He understands- it's the least she can do to make sure that he doesn't abuse them. Good choice, Childe thinks. Dottore isn't known for being warm.
He nods to Yoimiya, not questioning her decision on the matter. It's her body and her mind, so he won't push her to do something she won't be alright with, turning with her to go. Suddenly, the Doctor's cold voice rings out from behind them, almost with an authority to get them to stop.]
Heheheh, so you're concerned for their safety. Is that all? I suppose I can be accommodating to your request.
[Tartaglia turns, eyeing the Doctor, before his gaze sweeps over to Regrator. His glance asks the other Harbinger, "Is he being serious? You're the one here who works closely with him. This isn't a trick?"]
I've been waiting a long time to be able to study those creatures, [Dottore continues,] and it would be a waste to let this opportunity go by. What would I have to do to assuage your concerns?
If this is a trick...
[Childe's voice comes out as a growl, a warning to the Doctor not to mess with Yoimiya. He won't hesitate to use force, and Dottore knows it, but the senior Harbinger still feels like he has the upper hand.]
It's not a trick, [he responds quickly, cutting Tartaglia off.] I'm being sincere. Now let the young lady speak.
no subject
She gives his hand a gentle squeeze, silently thanking him for respecting her decision and not pressing for Dottore's aid. But suddenly, his cold voice cuts through the air like a blade embedded with ice, his timbre holds so much power and authority that it beckons her to freeze, stopping her dead in the tracks. To say she's stunned would be an understatement, the infamous second Harbinger wishes to negotiate with her? A country bumpkin from Inazuma...?
There's got to be a catch to this and Tartaglia says exactly what's on her mind. Yoimiya can hear the heat packed in that growl as he threatens his own coworker, a sentiment she appreciates and is willing to back him up on. If Dottore tries something funny, she is more than happy to prove that she's not just a simple country girl to be messed with. For now, she figures it wouldn't hurt to hear him out since they've already made the trip. ]
You'd have to promise to treat it well, with the respect it deserves, and not like one of your experiments. I'd also like to check up on it whenever I have time but I really rather not capture one for you. Not a single one of those sweet creatures deserves the fate of a lab rat.
[ So really, there's not much that can be negotiated. Yoimiya would rather have something bad happen to her than a kind forest spirit who did nothing wrong.
As the two discuss matters, Regrator is impressed that a simple girl has the gall to stand up to the Second and now, he understands why she's caught the attention of Tartaglia, he muses that their fierce tenacities make them a good match. An amused smile tugs on the corners of his lips as his gaze meets Childe's, "He seems sincere. Why not listen to what he has to say? After all, he might be the key to saving your girlfriend.". He doesn't answer the question because admittedly, this is a surprise for even the Ninth himself, he wasn't expecting his companion to take a keen interest in this girl. ]
I can't make any guarantees that I'll be able to bring you an Aranara. I don't know if it's possible for them to even leave Sumeru.
no subject
It's actually impressive, how she puts her foot down on the person that so many have lost their lives to without even blinking. She's the one who would allow Dottore to realize his goals here, and though he knows his colleague could force her into doing his bidding if he wanted, he's being polite about all this. It surprises him, that Dottore seems much more reasonable than he previously assumed, willing to work with Yoimiya on this instead of threatening her. There's probably a catch or a hidden agenda to it, he's sure, but for now he'll continue to stay silent and let this play out between the two of them. It doesn't seem to him like Yoimiya really needs him to step in.]
You raise a good point, [Dottore responds, his hands tenting in front of him as he puts his elbows on his desk,] it very well may not be possible for them to leave. Since you're so very concerned for them, then instead of capturing one, why don't you introduce me to one of them and I can ask them myself if they'd be willing to assist me in understanding their kind. If I work in Sumeru, then you'll be able to come yourself and see how they're being treated by me at any time. Surely that is more favorable and meets all your conditions?
[There's a smooth, slyness to his voice, as if he were asking Yoimiya to find the flaw in that question. The mask he wears on his face hides his eyes, but the smile on his face is easily readable. And just to seal the deal, Dottore spins in his chair to access what looks like a very secure safe of sorts, opening it to produce a gem that gleams in the light of the office, setting it down on the desk for her to see.]
If so, this can be yours. I'm sure Childe can find a proper Snezhnayan casing for you to use it in.
[Ajax's eyes widen to the Delusion he's just taken out, looking a little different than the one he's used to using. He's sure that none of the Harbingers have a Delusion that looks like that. It's definitely experimental, that's for sure- just as he said.]
no subject
While Yoimiya isn't the brightest crayon in the box, she isn't so dumb not to realize that Dottore could be hiding something crucial, her gut is screaming at her to reject this offer, but at the same time...
Ajax and his family are more important to her than some forest spirits. If a single one of them got hurt because of her lack of control, then Yoimiya doesn't deserve to be his girlfriend. She looks down at the gemstone he brings out, on first glance it's shaped like a vision but instead of one of the seven elements, it bears the mark of the Fatui. Does this little stone truly have the power to ward off this spirit that has a hold of her? Either way, she's willing to take the chance, no matter how dangerous this trinket is. ]
Alright, I suppose I can agree to those conditions.
[ It feels like she's making a deal with the devil but desperate times call for desperate measures. With their agreement now set in stone, Yoimiya presents him with her hand over his desk, extending her small pinky finger towards him. ]
But first, we have to pinky promise on it. I believe in Snezhnaya it goes something like this...? You make a pinkie promise, you keep it all your life. You break a pinkie promise, I throw you on the ice. The cold will kill the pinkie that once betrayed your friend, the frost will freeze your tongue off so you never lie again.
[ An eerie silence fills the air until Pantalone can no longer contain his laughter, busting out into a chuckling fit. ]
Hahahaha, well this is certainly a first for me! I've never seen someone request the fearsome Dottore for a pinky promise. Oh dear me, what a delight this has been.
[ Someone is getting way too much kicks out of this... ]
no subject
Pinky...promise?
If Dottore's eyes were visible, the confusion in them would of been palpable. He looks down at the pinky extended to him, not moving to take it, not even really sure what's happening here. Tartaglia's eyes widen in complete surprise, especially with the seriousness that Yoimiya is saying that with. She recites the nursery rhyme with precision, dumbfounded that she's made this move and a little proud that she remembered the whole thing. They only said it a few times? And she's already got it down. His head snaps over to Pantalone laughing, and Childe's not sure if a part of him just died on the inside or if he's proud of her boldness or if he's just confused as to how they even got here to begin with.]
Yoimiya...he's not...
[Dottore finally smiles, reaches out and takes Yoimiya's pinky with his own and shakes it as if they were signing a contract. What an amusing girl, he thinks to himself, I would have never guessed Tartaglia would bring me such an entertaining subject.]
Am I supposed to say something here, Childe?
[Dottore's voice rings out towards the Eleventh, to which Childe only responds with a mild nervousness borne of embarrassment.]
Yeah, you're supposed to say, "It's a promise."
It's a promise.
[And with that, the pinky promise has been made, and Dottore lets go of Yoimiya's pinky with a smile.]
Now that we've settled matters, we can plan for our trip to Sumeru. Naganohara Yoimiya, was it? This is for you, and do log any experiences you have with it for me. Your Vision will grant you protection against the negative effects it usually incurs upon people, but extended use isn't recommended. This is imbued with the power of the Tsaritsa herself, so do take care of it. Regrator, please help Miss Naganohara set up an account with Northland Bank. She needs to be paid for her services, too.
[The gem is picked up and handed over to Yoimiya, as per the agreement- and the deal is sealed.]
Great, can we get going? We can talk about travel plans tomorrow.
[Tartaglia's hand comes up to his head as if he's got a headache...this is already a half-nightmare.]
no subject
She gives the Doctor a soft nod as they both let go, satisfied that their contract feels more official. Her gold eyes grow with amazement once he hands her the gemstone, she delicately accepts it and wastes no time inspecting it from all angles. That's definitely the Fauti's insignia in the center of the blue gemstone, such a beautiful shade of blue reminds her of the vast ocean... the same color as Ajax's vision. If she had to guess, hydro powers are embedded in this tiny trinket but she'll make sure to ask her beloved all sorts of questions once they are alone. ]
Will do! If something unusual happens I'll be sure to make note of it. Since it's from the majestic Tsaritsa herself, I promise to take extra care of it. I really can't thank you enough for lending us your help. I will also do my best to hold up the end of our agreement.
[ With that, she takes the delusion and carefully stores it in her goldfish-patterned gamaguchi. It's not recommended to use for an extended amount of time... got it! Yoimiya makes a mental note to heed his warning, promising herself not to do anything that will worry Ajax
NEVERMIND THAT SHE GOT DOTTORE TO DO A PINKY PROMISE WITH HER LOLand if there's anyone who can teach her how to properly harness the gem's powers, it's her Harbinger boyfriend. ]To the Northland Bank, it is! Hehe, looks like you managed to lure me in as a customer after all.
[ Pantalone's smile is as wide as his fortune. He knew that tagging along with the two would be a worthwhile trip. Not only did he gain a new client, but said client was none other than Tartaglia's girlfriend and the woman who stood proud in the face of the Second Harbinger. With that connection alone, she's already a valuable customer and he'll be sure to thank Dottore for sending her his way later. ]
Since you're Childe's girlfriend, I'll ensure you receive nothing but the best treatment. We can figure out how to tackle the Inazuma problem later but for now, I'll be happy to welcome you to Northland Bank.
[ Signora might have ruined his plans to branch out to Inazuma but Archons, he's bound and determined by greed to make it happen. He can already taste all the sweet, sweet mora that will be made if he succeeds, maybe this lass will be the key to expanding his bank.
Already feeling a little better, Yoimiya wraps her arms around Tartaglia's biceps... still unaware of the nightmare he just witnessed with his own two eyes. ]
And once we're done setting you up with an account. Maybe the three of us can go out for lunch together? It will be my honor to show you the finest restaurants Snezhnaya has to offer. Plus, I've been looking forward to catching up with Childe over there, haha. I have so much to tell him.
[ POOR AJAX'S DAY JUST KEEPS GETTING "BETTER"... ]
no subject
Tartaglia, however, is slumping his shoulders in grief- now he's gotta deal with Pantalone too. As much as he likes to do work for Northland Bank while he's abroad, he doesn't want to hear the guy talk about finances again...it's so boring...]
Are you paying, Regrator?
[Yoimiya's arms around his own is nice, but he's more focused on the other man beside them now. He's inviting them out to lunch, and that means it's going to be ridiculously expensive. The man knows how to make money, but he also enjoys his nice places out when he's trying to impress someone. He's willing to bet he's going to use Yoimiya as a way to settle Northland Bank in Inazuma somehow...even after the mess with the Raiden Shogun and the Delusions. Which was partially his idea!!!!]
I know your tastes. That's not fair to us if you take us somewhere extravagant and expect us to pay for ourselves.
[Ajax gets a little huffy about it as they leave, hoping that maybe the threat of making Regrator pay for them will change his mind about lunch. Besides, he can catch up with him when Yoimiya isn't here on vacation. >:|]
no subject
Besides... there's something else she wants to talk to him about ASAP, away from the prying ears of Dottore and Pantalone. ]
Why yes, it would be quite rude of me to take you to one of Snezhnaya's finest restaurants and expect you to pay. I'll tell you what, I know you can afford it, Childe but I don't mind treating Miss Naganohara since she'll be a new customer of mine.
[ Ajax knows his coworker well enough, this man had every intention of taking them to the most extravagant restaurant in Snezhnaya. Although throwing mora away for some girl from the boonies of Inazuma isn't exactly what he wants to do, he rationalizes this could lead him to a net positive. If he's able to use Yoimiya's connections to set up a Northland Bank, then he'll make all his mora back from this lunch and then some. ]
I appreciate your offer but you don't have to go out of your way. I would feel bad if you spent an exorbitant amount of mora on little ol' me, especially since we just met. Besides, Tartaglia and I have plans to see the rest of the capitol.
[ She shoots Ajax a small, reassuring smile, hoping her suggestion is enough to deter Pantalone and make her beau happy. Besides, she's not exactly keen on the idea of another man paying for her meal with her boyfriend right there. But... goodness, she can't help but be a little amused at how wealthy Ajax is that the owner of the Northland Bank brings attention to it. ]
Ah, well. If that's the case, then who am I to take precious time away from the two love birds?
no subject
But here she comes, Yoimiya's here to save the day. Thank the archons at least one of them has a cooler head here, and her smile is enough to settle him down enough to let the other Harbinger respond before he lost his temper.]
I'm glad to see even a banker like you recognizes the value of time, [Tartaglia says with a mild amount of venom,] since not everything is necessarily purchased with mora.
[A value imparted on him by Rex Lapis himself, but he won't mention that- he knows exactly how Pantalone feels about the former Geo Archon.]
But yes, that's true. We really only have time to go to the bank, given how long it takes to create an account. I'd almost forgotten all about the tour we had set up for Yoimiya so she can see the sights while she's here. I thank you for your understanding on that.
[Because he better understand that he's here with Yoimiya and that they had to take part of their vacation just to try to increase Yoimiya's safety is already too much. Being given an experimental Delusion, having to derail their plans to take Dottore to Sumeru, he's going to end up with the biggest migraine of the century at this rate.]
no subject
But for now, they need to go ahead with the account and be done with it. As nice as the offer is, it's the least of her worries with the whole mysterious being and the Delusion she will eventually have to master. ]
That's right, I've been looking forward to the tour ever since he told me about it! He has so much to show me so if you don't mind, we'd like to go ahead and get the account set up so we can enjoy the rest of the day together.
[ Although Pantalone didn't get quite what he bargained for
He really wanted to yap Tartaglia's ear off..., this outcome is still quite favorable and in the end, he didn't have to spend a single mora on an extravagant meal for the three of them. Either way, he's gained a new customer in this girl who might possibly be his golden ticket to having a hand in Inazuma. ]Of course, it will be my pleasure to lead you to the Northland Bank.
---
[ With her hand on her forehead and a stack of papers tucked underneath her arm, Yoimiya exits the Northland bank looking confused and dazed. How long were they inside that bank? An hour? Two hours??? The actual time doesn't matter because Archons it felt like she and Ajax were trapped there for a hundred years. She'll have to sort through these documents later and ask her boyfriend for a simpler explanation because some of what Pantalone was saying completely flew over her head. ]
Oh dear, I thought I was a big talker but I think he takes the cake. I'm still seeing and hearing numbers...
[ Maybe some self-reflection is in order because she's starting to wonder if this is how other people feel with her nonstop chattering. Yoimiya's head feels like exploding from all that talk about finance. She'll be seeing numbers in her dreams tonight. ]

---
[If he didn't have a migraine before, he does now. He knew, he KNEW that would lead to Pantalone still talking their ear off and digressing to talk about his crazy theories and grand schemes to upset the natural balance between the gods and mortals. He knew the guy hated Morax with all his heart but did he really have to show that side of him to Yoimiya too???? The girl wasn't a Harbinger, let alone Fatui, and there's no doubt she didn't understand most of it anyway. He didn't understand most of it and he's sat through these rant/explanations more times than he'd like to admit to. If he has to hear one more word about how money and markets can be manipulated to gain vast wealth and upset the order of things, he'll literally die. Right there. On the spot.]
That's only a small taste of what he's capable of, [Childe comments, holding his head as it pounds.]
Going on missions with him is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. After a while, you start to have nightmares about mora. If I could avoid ever having to talk to him again for longer than two minutes, I would.
[But as a Harbinger, he's practically inescapable...]
I don't mean to complain, but he does get overbearing after a time. But it is thanks to him that the Fatui and Snezhnaya in turn have a vast amount of wealth. He keeps our accounts full, and I don't grumble too much about it. You'll find now that you're working with the Fatui that your coffers will never cease to be full. Anything you or your family would need or want for, will be well within your reach. Though you might have to see Regrator again. I'm sure he intends on using you for access to the Inazuma market.
no subject
Now that they've escaped from the clutches of Pantalone's crazy talk, Yoimiya feels like they can finally breathe. But knowledge that this is only a mere fraction of his talking power is downright scary. He's capable of more?! Oh no. Oh nononono. (⊙_⊙) ]
Don't worry, everyone needs to complain every once in a while! And after sitting through all of that... I understand why you try to avoid him at all costs.
[ Standing on her tip toes, she leans upwards to give him a peck on the forehead in hopes that a Yoikiss will alleviate his poor pounding head. Ajax has been through it today and he deserves every little bit of affection. ]
Well... he might be in for a disappointment. I don't have much influencial power in Inazuma, I don't think there's much I can do to help him out on that front. [ Still, she does find it flattering that Ninth Harbinger believes a simple fireworks girl might have some sway. ] Hehe, I don't know if my little Yoimiya head will be able to comprehend having so much mora but... as long as I can use it to help my family, then that's all I can ask for.
[ Allying with the Fatui won't go over well and if word got out in Inazuma then there's no denying she will be shunned. But it's a risk she's willing to take. Being with Ajax is worth more than her reptuation and she's already sworn to fight anyone who tries to stand in the way of their relationship. ]
Thank you, Ajax. I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me. The whole situation is still a little scary but thanks to you, I'm finally starting to see the light of hope.
