sometimes i hate you when i'm around you // but i miss you when you're gone
[As soon as he leaves the comfort of the air conditioning of the airport, the humidity of the rainforest blasts Tartaglia right in the face, much to his dismay. A far cry from the chilly weather of his homeland of Snezhnaya, he knows that it's going to take a while before he gets used to it. Naturally, his job had to transfer him here to Sumeru City for a indefinite amount of time, but even though it might be a little hard on him at first, ultimately he enjoys the traveling he's been able to do. There's nothing quite like being able to experience all different parts of the continent, and Sumeru is one where he hasn't had the chance to visit, until now.
The land of the Dendro Archon, thriving with life on one half and covered in endless desert on another, he'd always wanted to come and see it all for himself. And now that he's got the chance, he's going to make the most of it.
After doing a little settling in until a more permanent housing is set up for him, the business man heads out into the city for a little sightseeing. The Grand Bazaar is one of the first places he decides to hit up, following along the snaking pathways of the city down underneath the Divine Tree to a large carved out area that's without any sort of traffic. It's nice, he thinks, to see that all of the Grand Bazaar is for pedestrians only. He can't imagine the exhaust from cars would do the tree any good if it built up underneath...but that's neither here nor there as far as he's concerned, far more entranced with all the different shops set up and entertainment available for locals and tourists alike.
But of all the places he could start, he spots a little toy store, immediately beelining towards it to check out what they have to offer- it could be a great place for him to get little trinkets to send back home to his siblings.
Unbeknownst to him, there's another person wandering the streets of the city, someone he doesn't know but who knows him...]

It also doesn't help that this kind of nonsense is exactly the type of interaction he would expect from-
No.
That's definitely too much of a coincidence. With everything he's observed so far, that's just too much. This is decidedly not a pleasure, but he gives the extended hand a brief shake to keep up appearances despite realizing he may just have to say some more questionable things before this is over. After all, since when does he care what someone thinks of him? ]
You won't believe this, but my old acquaintance went by that name as well. [ A very deliberate phrasing. ] Though he was born under a different name in Snezhnaya.

What a coincidence indeed. I too, am from Snezhnaya.
[He searches the other's face, looking for even the slightest twinge or reaction.]
But that's where the similarities end then, I suppose. Unless my middle name is the same. It's not Ajax, is it?
[He says it as kind of a half joke, the humor clear in his voice, because really, what are the chances? One in a million, he'd say.]
no subject
This time he isn't surprised. That isn't the reply he wanted, but after everything else, it's not one he doesn't expect.
Crossing his arms over his chest, he just nods, expression unchanged. ]
Then it seems the similarities continue on, actually. You have the same name, same appearance, same place of origin, same... strange excitement to get into a fight. He would even spend his time in far off locales procuring toys and gifts for his younger siblings. If he hadn't died so long ago, at this point I'd ask if you'd simply lost your memory or something.
[ But that's where it all falls apart. Even if somehow that guy managed to survive, it's been far too long to be so open and shut as an amnesia case. Besides, he knows what he saw back then. ]
You don't have any strange thoughts or dreams you can't explain sometimes, do you?
[ Jokes aren't usually his thing, but every so often he can pull one off just as well as the next guy. ]

But then he asks that question, and the masks cracks, but only slightly.]
Hey, you're saying a lot of unsettling things here. What if I was having unexplained flashes of images and dreams I can't make any sense of?
[Things that haunted him at night, but eventually had to force himself to not think too hard about. Dreams were dreams, nothing more, but he can feel his stomach get a little sick. What if this guy, this stranger he's just met, had answers? It feels like he's reaching out towards a hope he should logically know isn't real.]
...Never mind, sorry. Forget I said that.
[He can't push that onto some random guy, he tells himself. But something tells him deep down, he's not just any stranger...]
no subject
If you were, would you tell me about them?
[ So no, he won't forget that question. Again, his expression doesn't budge; the time for being shocked by these developments is over. It's now time to try to make it all make sense. And though he had only asked the question half in jest, getting that type of response is, as before, basically par for the course in the context of all else going on, and he'd rather just move ahead with it.
He does note the possibility that now he is being misled or made fun of with such a question. But that brief, very subtle change in the other's demeanor did not go unnoticed. Something's there, and he can't walk away from this now. ]

Yeah. Why don't we move this conversation somewhere else- this scenery doesn't exactly do for a walk though a troubled mind.
[They are out in the middle of the Grand Bazaar, and he doesn't exactly enjoy the idea of spilling his guts over his own dreams and strange deja vu instances he's had from time to time.]
If you've got the time, we can head up to one of the taverns, or cafes up there. I've got a feeling I'm going to need a drink or two.
no subject
For this? I have the time if you do.
[ There's probably no one who could be faced with any one of the possibilities and questions going through Dachi's mind and decide they just don't have time. That settled, he turns to lead the way, choosing the quickest route to one of those establishments. ]
I appreciate that this can't be how you imagined this day going. Trust me, running into you was the last thing I ever expected myself.
[ It is a way of acknowledging that in some small way, they are at least somewhat in the same boat at this point. ]

What kinda crap is that anyway?
Tartaglia falls in line beside his new companion, shoving his hands back into his pockets as they walk. The shops and the sights of the Grand Bazaar seem to blur and pass him by now, his mind occupied with far more important matters than sightseeing. Glancing over, he really tries to give Dachi a better look, trying to see if anything about this guy is familiar. He doesn't look familiar, but the longer he stares, the more familiar he feels. The ginger can't really put his finger on it, but he's not regretting meeting this man today.]
Heh, you could say that again. I'll admit, I'm still a bit speechless at what you've told me so far...
[And it's not even that much!]
So, were we friends of some sort, back then? And...how far back are we talking, here?
