Personality:
You could say Yosuke is the bumbling best friend, the sidekick, the guy that's not in the spotlight that's being noticed but the one right behind who you can make out if you look hard enough. It might take a face full of trashcan to do it, but you'll eventually notice him. Despite that, Yosuke is his own person, the city boy who's stuck out in the sticks, the Hero from Junes, and he's here to stay.
At first glance, Yosuke's a pretty happy, clumsy, easy going guy. Wearing a grin, he keeps up a happy-go-lucky demeanor and tries to act cool, though ends up in him being awkward around other people. It's hard for him to command respect, as he's not taken seriously by his peers or blown off as some kind of loser, which hurts him more than he lets on. His friends are important to him and he's quite loyal to them. He's often seen trying to lift their spirits when they're down, wanting to keep the atmosphere positive. Sometimes though, this may come at the expense of one of his friends, enjoying to poke a little fun at them every once in a while. Unfortunately, he'll often speak before he thinks, putting his foot in his mouth. He will realize when he's taken it too far, and apologize for it. Yosuke is a bit of a pushover, giving into the commands of his fellow coworkers and Chie's demands (even if he owes her anyway.) On occasion however, you can find Yosuke dolling out some cash to treat one of his friends to lunch, but only with what's within his wallet. He can prove to be a little generous, to even go as far as giving Teddie a roof over his head.
But needless to say, this is all really a pain in his ass sometimes. He doesn't mind helping out, but he sure doesn't mind complaining about it. Especially if it freaks him out. Easily flustered, it's easy to get him to react in almost any sort of fashion. A good way to do it is to trigger his homophobia, which will really get him going. It's not all that hard to make him mad either, not that his temper is bad, but he will anger when someone does something that inconveniences him. Depending on the severity, he'll either brush it off and deal or he'll yell at them, often showing his displeasure with Chie for example when she spends his money or forces him to do something that he doesn't want to do. Despite all this, it's very hard for Yosuke to actually hate someone. They've got to cross a very defined, distinct line with him in order for him to hate them.
That being said, Yosuke has a strong sense of justice. People who enjoying hurting others or killing makes him more angry than most things. And he won't let that fly if he can help it. In times of need, and despite his happy demeanor, he can be very serious. His determination really shines through here, refusing to back down or give up even in dangerous situations. He'll even cheer his friends on to keep them going too. He has good organizational skills, helping to keep the Investigation Team on track, and shows a decent amount of intelligence and insight into situations, despite not being great in school. This even applies to his relationships, being able to tell when Yu needed someone there for him during a really hard time and returning to stand with his friend for support.
Nothing is always as it seems however, and there's always a darker side to everyone, including Yosuke. He fears being alone, and surrounds himself with people to try to shut it out. He's become a target of hate from the residents of Inaba because of Junes, the department store that his father manages. That cheery personality he has is really a facade, trying to blow off and hide his problems with a smile. But in reality, he's really resentful of a lot of the people around him, and envious of others who seem to be better off than him. This has earned him the title of Captain Ressentiment, which is a title he does not appreciate at all. He wants to feel important, be a hero, or anything that makes him feel like he isn't useless. Sometimes, he feels like he's the pain in the ass, feeding into the feeling that he's alone. It devastates him that his crush Saki Konishi didn't really like him at all, and only acted nice to him because he was the son of the manager where she worked. He also gets bored very easily, being out in the boonies and being accustomed to the city life, and uses that to try to find excitement. Unfortunately it manifested in the form of Saki's death, and even though he did care for her quite a bit and wished to find her killer with the best intentions, it was an opportunity for him to spice up his life as well, and maybe come out of it as a hero.
All in all, Yosuke is a good friend, and a good person overall despite his flaws. Loyal, caring, and even a little spazzy, he'll try to make any time spent together fun, and come through for you when you need him to.
☆INTERSTELLAR
Choice Instrument: Electric guitar, bass guitar, drum set
Rockstar Persona:
His backstory is similar to his canon incarnation- son of a department store manager, living in a large city with endless amounts of things to do. Awkward and always hoping to be popular, he hadn't had a lot of friends in school. Not real ones, at least. Nothing was ever really personal between himself and his friends, despite having "many" of them. Even at a young age, Yosuke had a vested interest in mainstream media. That included pop stars to movie stars, and somewhere along the lines he'd picked up guitar and even how to dance. He knew he wanted to live that kind of life, and chose not to follow in his father's footsteps. That lead him one day to getting "discovered", but how that happened remains a mystery in his jumbled memories.
Yosuke on the surface is a confident, cheerful guy who's gotten a little too big for his britches with the fame he's acquired. That's not to say he isn't a nice person, because he'll be happy to greet the fans and gives tons of autographs on demand, take pictures and tweet out at fans. But he does let it get to his head a little bit, and lets his arrogance on that matter show a little more than he realizes, sometimes giving people the impression that he's kind of a loser sometimes. In interviews, he tries to keep a cool exterior, and sometimes says some foot-in-mouth answers; but there are times when he's asked questions that he can give real honest answers that people can relate to. Though that doesn't outweigh how much he tries too hard. He makes up for it in his looks- he makes sure he dresses well all the time and has the latest fashion trends at hand. Plus, he has a fantastic stage presence in visuals only. Don't give him a mic for too long other than to sing backup vocals.
He really does love the stage life. It gives him a feeling of being wanted and useful that he didn't really have before. All these people love him, and he uses it to fill that void of feeling completely alone. It makes it easy to ignore that aspect of his personality, that he really wants to pretend isn't there so he can live life in the fast lane. Everything is exciting and he couldn't of asked for anything better.
When he isn't on stage and appealing to the fans, he's only a little more mellow, though he can be caught spazzing out frequently. More prone to complaining and whining he's picky about what he eats and how he's traveling. He still tries to keep everyone in a good mood at least, and here's where more self-depreciating jokes come out. He's much quicker now to letting things annoy him, or being resentful of how much better other stars are doing than him. But at his very core, he's still a good friend to his bandmates.
Ideal CR:
Overall, Yosuke is the kind of guy that can talk to just about anybody. Quiet/shy types that he can drag out to have fun with, other types that love to go out and have a good time is fine. But also, people who will make him facepalm and be completely embarrassed for them, or ones that are just plain stupid so he can yell. Ones that are a little weird are great to get his goat and make him freak out a little. He can take it all- his own group of friends from canon cover a wide range of personalities.
